PlayStation 3 in Japan - Image 1We've just reported recently that Sony's PS3 seems to be throttling upwards in a good streak, and it looks like the trend is becoming more and more consistent.

According to Bloomberg, the PS3 is about to catch up with the Nintendo Wii's sales numbers: Wii is now outselling the PS3 at only three-to-one. That's a great jump from the previous six-to-one ratio a few months ago.

Japanese research firm Enterbrain has reported 245,653 Wii units sold compared to Sony PS3's sales number of 81,541 in a span of four weeks ending in August 26.

The streak also shows in the two gaming mogul's stocks in Japan's stock exchange: Nintendo's shares fell 1.7 percent to JP¥ 52,000, while Sony gained 0.4 percent to JP¥ 5,600.

Will Sony continue to fly high? Do check this space often to find out!

in Japan PS3 outsells xbot 2-1, and Wii outsells PS3 3-1, so Wii should outsell xbots 6-1. What a disappointment to all xbot systems and xbot girly-mans.

n USA 360 outsells PS3 4-1, and Wii outsells PS3 6-1, so Wii should outsell PS3 6-1. 360 sells 1.2million software titles per week there they proberly make more money on software in 1 week in the USA than Sony have made since its launch in Japan,(and they dropped TWO models already)What a disappointment to all PS3 systems and PS3 girly-mans.

slap on the ass

Look at the numbers. The Wii's numbers dropped. Sony's stayed where they were.
To make such a comment without looking at the sales figures is moronic.
We also know that Wii's are still in demand and that production has not been stepped up as originally planned. It should also be pointed out that it is believed that some of Japan's supplies were sent to the U.S. due to the overwhelming demand in the U.S. with a LARGER poplulation.

 » hardly the same thing

if Wiis were sitting on a shelf waiting to be sold and sales were dropping, ok. that is nowhere near the case and everyone knows it. i'd look more to the ebay markup as a sign of a console's success, and last i checked some people were actually losing money reselling a ps3... i've owned a ps3 and it's way overhyped half it's "functions" don't work properly/well or in some cases at all... sony built a system that can't be mainstream for another few years, it needs more debugging and cost cutting.

   Re: Unleash_Your_Fury (Unregistered) - 2007-09-03
» why ish little xbot complaining, need a diaper change

I don't know why are you complaining the PS3 functions when the system is years ahead of other technology (cough--xbot). just because developers isn't high tech enough to use all it's fuctions means it not the PS3's fault but lousy developers like EA.

PS3 can withstand even the most overwheming overuse of it...which was already proven a week ago or so.

Unlike crappy xbot which you don't know when it's gonna break.

I bet everytime you turn that xbot on you are always holding ya breath and crossing ya fingers that it actually loads up instead of the red ring of death.

Why go on about the early 360 fault ?, the PS3 had around 5 million DVD drive of deaths which had to be replaced but it went on to become a world beater and they DIDNT give a 3 year warranty to cover the fault for the futre either wheas MS has..

what about those people that had to suffer because their ps3 malfunction. sony does not care about you, just profit. and it goes for MS and Nintendo you know. and the rule of who sells more in a generation always goes to the least power in grafx. ex. ps2 was lowest and bam. nes was lower than genesis and bam. now wii lower so bam. atari gaguar was high comp. to snes and it go bye bye

ok rolly*****olly you're just talking with your face in your ass. all of ps3's function work perfectly. and i think your secksbox 690 is buggy since no one knows if it will brick after a simple dashboard patch. and ppl are losing their money selling ps3 because no ones stupid enough to pay $1000 for a ps3 on ebay anymore. thats like expecting to make a profit selling your computer on ebay.

While im glad to hear we are only 3 to 1 behind rather than 6 to 1. We are still behind 3 to 1. :( I think I could live with 2 to 1 at the very least but I really hope the PS3 starts gaining ground in Japan. That is where all the best games come from.

   Re: k (Unregistered) - 2007-09-03

If the PS3 could win over Japan, that means a load of great games for the console.

Maybe the PS2 generation is still taking them sweet time and waiting for the right time before upgrading to the PS3. If that happens, the PS3 has already won.

its 3 to 1 on a good month for ps3 b/c of game releases, wait for september
anyway 6 to 1 was just on 1 month so .. 3 to 1 is pretty much standard

 » lol

I've got to love how a month that deemed only 1 Wii release of any real interest, bolsters the PS3 ranks to claim that they're seeing a true beginning to a rise to power.

This is the same kind of comment that I've heard from XBOX360 owners during the months predating the release of PS3 & Wii, stating how the 360 would always remain superior to the others.

Come on, everyone knows the summer is a fluke. Let's wait until Fall's end before we start making foolish comments regarding the PS3's rise.

(Don't get me wrong, I'm a PS3 owner and love to see these numbers, but let's not let this go to our heads. When we see 1 to 1 ratios, I'll be impressed. )

Dude you don't like people being happy about their PS3 gaining grounds do you? Even if it's just by alittle let everyone enjoy it. You don't have to spoil it for everyone else because you're a non believer

The poor excuse for a system that's ps3 will never come back form death, because nobody wants it. Why do people get excited when something like this comes up for? the numbers are different every week, but what they should be trying to reach is the ds which will never happen lol.

 » Comeback OMGZ

Not really in my eyes the PS3 has the most to offer i terms off format, and bullets on the back of the box. XLIVE is great but with every update the PS3 gets the gap closes. the 360 with all its so called great games received only 2 ratings of 9 for a totally exclusive series (cough Gears , Bio Shock cough 3rd party devs) all there hit games are 3rd party devs that end up putting there second installment on other formats. MS bought the rights to Gears and Bio Shock incase you were wondering. while the PS3 has managed to push out atleast one game that is a 9 (cough RFOM) made by there devs. There has yet to be a killer app on the PS3 yet it has 5 million units sold to CONSUMERS not stores. WHy would a console go up against a hand held not even the PSP is in direct comp with the DS its a portable console and entertainment complex(music, videos, channels, internet, games). what were starting to see is the wii's sale begining to go down and the PS3 which is starting to get games is growing. I see the sales as 2:1 ps3 5 million and wii 10 million (360 10 million wtf they have been that since the holiday) for a console that cost twice as much as the other i dont see the big deal when the wii outsells the PS3, come on the PS2 is still moving like wild fire and later this year the PS2 will be getting wii like controls .

   Re: rtyr (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
 » Boring person

Third party devs ?, If it wasnt for MS full backup do you think these games woud of been made and why do you think they will never be coming to the er cough PS3?.

 » supplie demand,

Look at the facts. nintendo has sold more wiis in America. they are putting out more consoles in America and less in japan because there is a bigger dimand for wiis here. They are still selling out in japan. the american sales numbers have gone up.

   by martin (Unregistered) - 2007-09-03
 » wii is too chep

even tough the wii is winnin
the ps3 is like 3 times the prise of the wii so acctuala if we compare the prises with the wii ones the ps3 has sold 244623

so even though the wii has sold more sony has gotten about the same mony nintendo has

   Re: neo_sporin (Unregistered) - 2007-09-03
» if by same money you mean...

way less. It has been stated by each company that nintendo is making about 50 dollars per system (200 to make, selling for 250) while Sony is losing somewhere in teh range of 200 per system (700 to make selling for 500) thus per system sold, nintendo makes profit, sony loses money (banking on making it back in software) so no, sony has gotten a lot less money than nintendo has. and by that i mean probably in the range of 100 million dollars less.

Re: Mister Common Sense - 2007-09-04
 » ?

Nintendo is making at least $150 per system because they are selling overclocked gamecubes for $250. They don't even need to sell games! What a crock.

   Re: brinztar (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04

why r u complaini about wiis grafx. u never did complain with the ps2 wich had a lack of 480p games. gamecube looked like ps4 with hd compared to ps2.
   by Thomas_weko34 (Unregistered) - 2007-09-03
 » the price drop?

Isnt one of the reasons why people are buying the ps3 is because of that price drop? but when the new 80gb ones come in its gonna go back to the $500 and sony wont sell anymore of the 60gb ones.

   by .. (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
 » ..

A glimmer of hope. Will it catch up? Never. But at least we might not see any more developers jumping ship or going multi platform.

 » who cares??

when the ps3 came out sony said back then that the ps3 was never in competition with the wii as it was a different kind of system!!! the ps3 is in competition with the xbox360 which is where?? oh!! it at the bottom!!! the fact is, of course it will catch up with the wii!!! its a gamecube with a innotive controller!!! its a fad that will end well before the battle between ps3 and xbox360 will!!! as for this fanboy pish, anyone who defends their own console here is classed as a fanboy so if thats the case then im proud to be one!!!

   Re: Crap (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
» Who cares ?, I do you talk rubbish.

The only place the PS3 is outselling the PS3 is in Japan by a whole 500,000 LOL and Germany by about 1,000.

Go take a look first at the Software chart for the 360 in the USA

http://www.vgchartz.com/aweekly.php

Now look at the software total sales in 1 week for 360 there -

360 1,023,996 software sales

PS3 216,281 software sales

MS make more money from the USA software sales in 1 week than Sony have made in Japan since launch.

Now scroll down to hardware sales I dont even need to comment that the PS3 is bombing out now they are selling out of the $100 DROPPED TWO PS3 systems..... and is being well outsold by the 360 there

Oh and here is the sales for Europe

http://vgchartz.com/eweekly.php

As you can see the 360 is by far outselling the PS3 and now is selling DOUBLE the amount of the PS3 in places like the UK now.

I know a good comparison Wii is like a nice compact mini cooper and 360 a good mid range car and ps3 a luxury car
