To create AI to act like a human being but I'd think it'd be an easier project to create AI to do just what you wanted for a game. Think about it, if you had a FPS you'd want to focus AI on offensive and defensive combat tactics and whatnot, you wouldn't even want to touch on making the AI smart enough to say cook a meal or make love, it's just something you wouldn't need in that situation, thus the AI you'd be programming would be a simplistic AI (more then a complete human recreation) with a set goal.
The problem in creating AI in most games is that they simply dont have any. The same thing happens in most games. the AI is very predictable and very few games have established an AI thats worth replay value in FPS games. Halo series for example has AI thats soo predictable that after the first hour, you know exactly how to defeat any enemy.
Half-life 2 has very interesting AI. Its very predictable but they pull off some surprising attacks on you.
I want to play a FPS game where the map are totally non linear. You have a near infinite number of ways to getting your objective done and therefore your enemies have a near infinite possible way to egt to you and stopping you.
If a company like Prima can make a detailed guide on how to complete a level by telling you where the enemies are comming from, then there have been absolutly no improvements in FPS AI in the past decade.
I think the big problem with game A.I. is not just the level of intelligence, but the fact that in most games you kill an enemy as soon as you have them in your sights. They tend not to have very much time to learn your strategies and act accordingly. We just kill them quickly and move on.

I always knew that movie was a real life documentation of the future in which AI robots will rule the world, but it never said Sony was behind it! Gasp!
Sorry just wanted to make a joke.
Come on now, we all now if your a guard you periodically check in to make sure your on duty. What if a guard doesnt make a checkpoint? You send someone out to check it out, and eventually lock a building or complex down.
Games like Farcry were decent cause when you killed one person, everyone was alerted and decended to your area. thats the kind of AI i wanna see in more games.
If your in Splinter Cell, and you take down a guard, you can take the radio and listen in on the enemys movements or call in a fake checkpoint. I want more realism out of the game. Screw improving graphics, graphics were already good before the Xbox360, include more realism, I wanna see AI using teamwork, For example, you notice one guy but you dont notice the 3 guys about to flank you.
brothers in arms: hells highway will bring us closer to that type of gameplay, i want to say resistance but from the movies and demos i've seen the AI isnt all that.
This guy just likes a.i to much, lol. Duh you will see the best a.i amoung aloto of other things from Cell but... next gen is all about graphics.
That's the point for new consoles to even come out and why pcs get new video cards/cpus alot and for new game engines being made all the time amoung other stuff, lol.
Cell will be best for many things like graphics, physics (if spelled right lol), hdr?, ray casting, ray tracking, and alot of other game stuff.
What I meant by graphics is that Cell can do some of alot of what a gpu/video card can do but better, lol.
Games will always be about better graphics and gameplay, a.i, and physics (if spelled right again lol).
