Street Fighter 4 confirmed on rumored platforms; more details kick in - Image 1

Capcom confirms that Street Fighter IV will be debuting on Sony's PlayStation 3, Microsoft's Xbox 360, and on Microsoft Windows via an official announcement just wired earlier. This news, however, was not graced with a release date, and so we're back to the waiting game again.

Street Fighter 4 was revealed as far back as fall last year, and even back then, the fighting game was not expected to release in a year's time. Capcom is reassuring players that they're continuing development of the game to bring the "legendary fighting series back to its roots."

In light of those goals, they've outlined Street Fighter 4's most striking features and qualities - the more interesting factoids they can bring to bear for fans:
  • 3D environments and characters
  • Traditional "2D" Street Fighter six-button gameplay
  • Classic Street Fighter characters re-imagined for a new generation of gamers, including the original cast of Street Fighter II
  • New brawlers: female super-spy Crimson Viper, lucha libre wrestler El Fuerte, mixed martial artist Abel and more!
  • New special moves that go beyond any Street Fighter fan's wildest imagination, including Focus Attacks, Super Combos, and the revenge-fueled Ultra Combo system.
  • Amazing locations never seen before in a Street Fighter game
  • New gameplay elements provide challenges for both newcomers as well as the most seasoned Street Fighter pro.
While the game will be stylized in 3D, the game's fighting mechanics will remain faithful to the older 2D titles. Capcom also says that the six-button fighting controls will return, too, and experienced brawlers will be able to play the popular Street Fighter characters. Updates as we get them.

 » Next-gen fighting

WHEN is SOMEONE finally going to come-up with a TRUE next-gen fighter? I mean, isn't it time we should be able to pick up chairs in the environment and crack them over the opponent's head? Take a garden hose and flood their footing so that they fall down and you can kick them? Knock out a wood support and have a ceiling cave-in on them? Some games have come close, such as the much-criticized Def Jam Icon, and the equally-lambasted Marvel Nemesis .....but I'd rather have a special "use" control button than have to revisit 'musty oldies' like: Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Virtua Fighter, etc. ---Nothing too much "new" or revolutionary here ("...the revenge-fueled Ultra Combo System" ---ooh! --how many buttons to press within 43 milliseconds will that take?).
