nextgenconsolesWe all know what fanboys think about the consoles of their choice (as well as their thoughts about the others). The question is what do Japanese game developers think about  the next-gen consoles? Famitsu Mag took it upon themselves to ask 58 game developers (directors, programmers and designers) from 19 game companies about next-gen consoles and here are the results.

Which next-gen console will send cash registers ringing:

  • Wii (60%)
  • PS3 (37%)
  • Xbox 360's (3%)
Which system they prefer for game development:
  • Wii (63%)
  • PS3 (32%)
  • Xbox 360s (5%)
Which next-gen console they want for Christmas:
  • Wii (49%)
  • PS3 (42%)
  • Xbox 360 (9%)
Most anticipated PS3's games:
Most anticipated Xbox360 games:
 Most anticipated Wii games:
What they expect from PS3:
  •  Extremely high expectations (48%)
  •  High expectations (32%)
  •  Don't expect much (18%)
What they expect from Xbox 360:

  • Visual power (19 votes)
  • Overall hardware specs (10 votes)
  • Cell's computation abilities (9 votes)
  • Built-in hard disk (3 votes)
  • Blu-Ray (3 votes).
  • Also mentioned: PSP connectivity, online functionality, the 6-axis control system and brand power associated with PlayStation and Blu-Ray.

  • Xbox Live (18 votes)
  • System's ease of development (13 votes)
  • Connectivity with Windows Vista (12 votes)
  • Visual power (6 votes)
  • Overall hardware balance (4 votes).
  • Also mentioned: the system's demo download service, ranking system and strength of sales in the North American market
Favorite Wii part:
  • Wiimote (34 votes)
  • Wii Connect 24 (9 votes)
  • Virtual Console (6 votes)
  • Ease of development (4 votes)
  • Console price (3 votes)
  • Also mentioned: hardware size, the concept of moving your body, and the focus on light users
There you have it. It shouldn't come as a Taser-like shock to Xbox 360 fanboys that their console didn't score very well. MS has been struggling with getting the Xbox 360 off the ground in the Japanese market. The company, however, is doubling its efforts to keep up with its upcoming Japanese counterparts. But as far as the Japanese game developers are concerned, the next-gen console wars is shaping up to be a duke-fest between Wii and PS3, with Nintendo's console having the upperhand.

the ps3 keeps getting negative press. The Wii just keeps getting postive press. I wonder which one will rock this time. The gamecube got hammered by the press last time so it is nice to see Nintendo getting some postive press this time

" the next-gen console wars is shaping up to be a duke-fest between Wii and PS3"

It's like that in the US too, no one cares about the 360 here.

@6--not just 50 ppl; 50 developers. It's just another point of view or perspective on the console wars. Take it for what it is. Also, don't be so retarded with your ignorant rhetoric. PS3 press for US is just as bad as Japan. I have personally talked to many people who were once diehard PS3 ppls who are now looking at the Wii. With no other choice this Christmas season--due to limited PS3 supply--many people will be happy to take a chance on the Wii who normally would not give it a second look. That's not to mention all the rabid Nintendo fanboys who will be first in line anyway.

» What i've come to hate

The only thing I hate more than Microsoft at the most, is Nintendo. If Microsoft managed to persuade people into buying into a 360, Nintendo managed to sell the whole freaking hype!

Christ, Miyamoto himself even said wii is nothing more than a gamecube 2 yet you all are so hard up on Nintendo--all of a sudden--that innovation is what you want! Get a *****ing clue, Nintendo is selling you a updated current-gen console with a gimmick controller and a slew of "innovative" party games! Since when have buttons ever been a problem?? Your fat ass doesn't want to press to many buttons but now you want to swing your wrist around like a fruity conductor? and also the new Zelda game was orignally intended for gamecube, now all of a sudden the gamecube title is pushed back further than the wii's first port! And don't even get me started on original IPs, this is the same company whose mascot has over 10 games a year.

Anyone who rips on Sony for being copycats, or uninspiring or hell just for being Sony should get a rain check and realize Nintendo is orally milking you all, with you sons of *****es having a smile on your face...only cause they're Nintendo.

And one last thing, ***** retro gaming. Retro gaming is nothing more than a flash back to what you used to play. And anybody that’s not old enough to remember the nes or snes then you're nothing more than a *****, and most likely, an emo *****, cause you shop at hot topic.

Oh, really now?
And i thought the 360 was doing great in the us,
its not like nobody cares for it you dumbass fanboy.

BTW, the 360 is also getting "Naruto" which should win over quite alot of the japanese market (seeing as naruto is a great game and anime)

» Whos the N#$@%*!# you love to hate?

Lolers #11.

Why must everyone care so much about what is better ps3, wii, 360. I for one am getting all 3. (already have a 360) Each one has good exclusive games for it, and its own benifits that are obvious and different.

360 has great live online and marketplace demos and arcade, has great power, HDVD somday, and a good library of games. PS3 has raw power, neato connectivity to PSP, BD, nice dpad, good lib of games and long lifespan. Nintendo has a tiny pretty shiny toy with a new gimmic controller and many quirky proprietary games.

Whats not to love? Get all of them. Now I just need a mega input selector or AV unit to control all the junk. Too bad you can't join all 3 consoles to make some kind of mega robot. Wii's controler on PS3's hardware, with 360s Live. Lolers

Anyhow why the big #'s war, who cares, not me. I don't give a flying koopa. Who else is a crazy mofo and getting all 3 systems FTW?

Yeah i'm sure it will win over "quite a lot" seeing as how there already are a billion Naruto games out there.

@11--This is the kind of fanboy ranting that is going to lose Sony a lot of acceptance from casual gamers. All you're doing is building a wall (of insecurity) between yourself and the rest of the gaming world.

Fact is Sony have tried to hype their system just as much as Nintendo and just as much as Microsoft. The difference is Nintendo are getting positive press across the board from developers, publishers, reporters, and gamers.

For the past 5+ years, it has been almost impossible to hear anything positive about Nintendo or anything negative about Sony. Well now the tables have turned, and you and your friends are all bent out of shape. Well, get over it. Nintendo have been around for a while, and they are not going anywhere soon just like Sony and MS. So quit being a little *****, and just be glad you have a choice.

I have a 360 and ive got a wii and ps3 on pre-order ...but i really cant justify three consoles.
right now I am considering selling the 360 because i reckon the ps3 will just be a bigger better more badass games system but its atleast 6 months away over here (uk) .........infact this problem has been bugging me ever since I pre ordered them ...

i think I might sell the wii on ebay if i can and then hang on to the 360 and maybe check oyut gears of war and COD3 and then when the ps3 comes i'll get rid of it ...because serioulsy... all three consoles would have cost me way over a thousand.

» See how hard i try?

But think of it as a government. People like you are the same type of dreamer that created communism. None of that Asian bull***** type but true communism, where everyone is equal and where true happiness can thrive. Or hell let me throw one out and say even Anarchism, where you have no rules or rulers and can do as you please. Well figures humans are vial creatures and some akin to be bad influences (check out bioshock for more). So in the end, ***** happens.

You also have elitists, or 360 fanbois, that are like monarchies where they only think of themselves. And in some cases, they’ll try to breed with another monarchy to form a higher power. We can use either A) Microsoft now blurring the lines between PC and 360 or B) the huge 360 fanbase that is controlled by its ruler and is conditioned to bash an opposing competitor. By the way I’m patting my back while making this ***** up.

Then, when all else fails, the best form of government--for now--is democracy. I find that PS3 fanbois are a lot like this style of governing, they’re not strictly loyal, but they intelligently speak their mind on other topics. You will find on these forums that the only people with a brain are usually part of the PS3 fanbase.

So there you having it, why fanbois are the way they are. By the way, I’m a PS3 radicalist. When someone pisses my god off (Sony) I want to blow them up. Hahaha, me kidding…for now…

 » WTF

is ANYONE surprised at this, the survey was done in JAPAN, OFCOURSE the 360 is doing horrible, and has been since launch.

and for #11 wasnt PS2 dishing out the same hype when they were launching way back then, EVERYONE HYPES you just believe what u want to believe, and if your allready a fanboy, then your obviously going to be biased.

However i do agree with that retro gaming B***S***, its all a waste of money, and you have to to be crazy for buying.

» ContrAss is really an @$$.

Spoken like a true mule. PS3 radicalist? Democracy? WTF? Wow. Your God is Sony? Puahahhahahhahahhahha. People actually talk this way? You're just as laughable as what Mike Brown is to FEMA.

So what if Nintendo Wii is a more powerful GC? so what? how does that affect you? How does that affect anyone? It just affects Nintendo and Nintendo alone.

Buttons? Don't you notice that many games are getting too complicated to play? Too many buttons. Gotta simplify. Yes we are lazy.....lazy to learn new button configurations.

Phukc retro gaming huh? Do YOU still play Contra for the NES and SNES? I bet you probably do. Log off. Go have a coke and a smile. Buy some new clothes or sumthin.

Kthnxbye.

» cool #22, maybe you and your boyfriend can shop at hot topic later too

Course I'm being a cynical ass, i was created to be a ps3 equivalent of a 360 fanboi. And too many buttons? Christ, I don't want to be mean but why don't you go back to the day when you put shapes into the corresponding hole, hmm? maybe still to much work? and yeah dude, Contra: shattered soldiers 4 life! WHAT A *****ING ROCK SOLID AWESOME ASS GAME!! Venus is still one of my favorite songs.

As for your ignorant gamecube talk, maybe my rant wasn't too far off. You don't see the overall picture. What Sony does to make future proof is too what Nintendo does every year. but the real problem for me is, they're getting money day 1. People are clamoring to a niche product, but wait, it’s a console I'm sorry. Mario is on it! MAMA MIA! okay enough, must go back to making PS3 origami and if any more questions arise to the words I'm using, I'll be around ^^;

Of course, XBOX360 is alway last place and vote in Japan. Same opposite as America and Europe developers and votes are favour XBOX360 leader. But I am not live in Japan and I am American. This Japanese number is nothing affect me and I don't care about Japanese market if XBOX360 is failing in the future. But I like some Japanese game and people. and I am huge a only XBOX and XBOX360 fan.

LOL Naruto, that ***** has been announced since Xbox360 launch day or some where around then, and all we get to see is some concept art. Oh and who the hell cares, there are about 3-8 Naruto games out for the PS2 + PSP already. Gamecube has a few too! I doubt the Xbox360 one would be a killer.

Seriously though, Xbox360 only fails because it lack variety, although more games are starting to come out for it, it's kinda late. Gamecube, meh, only really played SSB but it is worth it. Wii will be worth it alongside of the PS3.

this is too odd for me :/ the xbox360 is highly favored over both the ps3 and the nintendo wii in all aspects but only when compared in japan it's a flopp why is that :/ could it be because they still dont respect american products and never will? well it doesnt matter ive got the same mentallity now. thanx for the insite japan. i'll only buy my american consoles from now on and i'll keep american dollars in america. how can you pretty much shun a system thats doing everything right, hardware, software, inovation, and promotional wise. honestly you cant but if you want to boycott something you can but thats not an honest reason. but hell what is now days :/ but like i said i'll stick with my american made xbox360 system and i encourage everyone else to do the same. you will love yourself in the long run cause by now we should all know what system has the better games and system hardware and who's up for this console war win :) THERE IS NO POWER GREATER THAN THE X
