If you were to ask THQ president and CEO Brian Farrell what he thinks about the console wars, he'd tell you that the Nintendo Wii hasn't exactly won the battle yet. The reason, according to him, is that Sony's PS3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 can still keep things interesting - especially once the price cuts come in.
Farrell made his predictions during the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference, where he said that different consoles will each hit their strides at different times. While the Wii may have accelerated early on in the race, Farrell believes that the PS3 and the Xbox 360 will play catch-up later on:
The way we're thinking about this cycle from a high level is, the Wii at that lower price-point had a lot of momentum early in the cycle, but as Sony and Microsoft come down the price curve those two should accelerate, and there's a lot of firepower left in their arsenal.
It seems, however, that the one who will ultimately benefit from such an occurrence will be THQ itself. Farrell also said that THQ
is "expecting a lengthy, lucrative hardware cycle as the cheaper consoles make it more of an even fight." That certainly gives THQ something to cheer about.
