Take-Two - Image 1GamesIndustry.biz reports that a spokesperson for Take-Two Interactive confirmed that "the Grand Theft Auto IV episodic content is exclusive to Xbox 360," and hinted on the host platform of the upcoming title LA Noire.

Rumors of episodic content exclusivity circulated right after the publisher's financial report after the second fiscal quarter of 2007. According to the Take-Two spokesperson, the episodic content package will be available to users in fiscal 2008. That means march of next year and beyond to the uninitiated.

The spokesperson also said that LA Noire is in the works and is being designed for "next-generation systems." That makes it almost safe to assume that the game will be in the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 as the case is with GTA IV.

LA Noire is an open-ended murder-solving game set in a 1940's backdrop with jazz and drug themes swirling to create the detective movie feel of the era. Even the animation and coloring style of the visuals have been contoured to fit the game and create the most realistic ambiance possible.

I guess having microsoft behind the console is really paying off! I hope both games will end up on my shelf soon.

 » WOW!

Microsoft pays $50 million for Xbox GTA game exclusive!
"Microsoft is paying $25 million each for two separate downloadable packages that are expected to expand the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV with new play areas and features exclusive to Xbox 360 owners. The first will be released in March 2008"

http://www.texyt.com/Microsoft+pays+$50m+for+GTA+4+episodes+00111

Man it's gonna be awesome if they are paying that much for it. You would have to expect that Rockstar would be required to deliver something very special for that price.

 » oohh....sucks to hear this...

PS3 owners may be dissapointed to hear this.....but maybe PS3 does not have DLC because of the blu-ray disc....it might be large enough to hold all the extra stuff on it.....i doubt it though. Me, as a PS3 owner, hopes Rockstar changes their mind and also release DLC for the PS3...

   Re: Devise (Unregistered) - 2007-06-16
 » ...

Downloadable content isn't coming out till 2008. so it's not going to appear on the original disc.

   Re: PS3Rider (Unregistered) - 2007-06-17
 » ...

Now what I am trying to do is link two articles posted on QJ, which are this one and the other GTA one which talked about the difficulties Take-Two were having with the lack of HDD in the 360.

Now in my view they possibly needed the HDD in the 360 to confirm that people can download additional content due to the DVD9 disk (note this is all hypothetical). So with the release of the Elite, and the soon to be dropped Core then it would make sense for Microsoft to get the downloadable content as exclusive in early 2008.

Whereas the Playstation 3 possibly due to its 20gb and 60gb HDD and its 25GB disks doesn't need the downloadable content as it is already on the disk.

This would make sense as if the content it coming out in early 2008 then that would mean it would be the content already made but would need tweaking to put on XBL as episodic content.

Now maybe after the 3-4 release on XBL, then PSN may see some episodic content at the middle or the end of 2008.

   Re: Devise (Unregistered) - 2007-06-17
 » well

I could then link to an article with a representative of Rockstar saying that the PS3 and 360 version of GTA IV will be identical.

Also disc space was never mentioned in the article you are referring to. The developer just said yes to whether the core version of the 360 was a challenge to develop for. He then went on to say that both consoles have their draw backs in development.

And for my last point, it's "EXCLUSIVE episodic content" doesn't take much brain power to work what that means.

   Re: XYZ (Unregistered) - 2007-06-17
» Please use some common sense

"Whereas the Playstation 3 possibly due to its 20gb and 60gb HDD and its 25GB disks doesn't need the downloadable content as it is already on the disk."

So why is their downloadable content for Resistance coming soon then? Why wasn't it on the disk when there is 9GB space free? Same with MotorStorm! And why will there be downloadable content for other PS3 games in future!

The whole point of downloadable content is that it extends the life of a game. Why do you think it's so popular on the PC? Such content is usually still being worked on AFTER the game ships, with new ideas, maps, modes etc being considered all the time.

So the idea that the 360's downloadable content is going to be included in the PS3 version of GTAIV is just nonsense, because if it was, then it wouldn't be exclusive. Besides, Rockstar have already said that the 360 and PS3 versions are identical except for the downloadable content.

As for difficulties with no HDD as standard and DVD on the 360, Rockstar are having no more difficulties than any other dev, and have issues with BOTH consoles. I'm sure if they were ask by the Official XBox magazine if the slower speed of Blu-ray and less available RAM in the PS3 is causing limitations, they would have also said "Yep". Afterall, the rest of the reply was;

""To be honest with you we haven't solved all those riddles yet." The difficulties aren't limited to working on Microsoft's box, as Houser explains that "both have enormous challenges" and that "both have their own particular pleasures and pains"."

This is a stupid move. It makes no sense to give xbox exclusive episodic content and none for the PS3. Sony made paved the way for them, if it wasnt for sony gta would still be a overview game on the pc.

if they going to make the games for both consoles they should give them both downloadable content but no...rockstar decided to be sellouts and takes microsofts check to make them keep exclusive content to them only because money matters more than the fans who buy the games and make them money.

What would they do if everyone decided not to buy their game because their such *****es. I own both consoles and I like them equally but still I just dont understand it...

yer i agree, sony are really getting *****ed by T2 and rockstar, i wonder what their reason is for doing this, i cant see any benifit...

   Re: Devise (Unregistered) - 2007-06-16
 » ...

MS invented console episodic content. They probably first suggested it to rockstar and asked for exclusive rights.

Take Two are in a lot of trouble money wise, so I'm not surprised that profits are a major issue. I'm sure this is why LA Noire is going multi platform.

   Re: Shatterdome - 2007-06-17
 » Use your brains.....

Paying for extra content is a tried, tested and proven conept on the 360...MS has alot of "data" showing that X number of people are buying add-ons for X number of games and that it is almost guarenteed that at least X gamers will buy your content and you will make X dollars...

PS3 may (or may not) have the means to support DLC, but the fact is that the install base in not great, and that PS3 users do not buy as much content as XBL users....mainly because there are not enough users and there has not been enough content...so at this point in the game, it's not economically viable to support DLC on PS3......

Yes money talks and developers do not want to waste money, even for the "fans"....

   Re: Eclipze_ (Unregistered) - 2007-06-17
 » Re:Shatterdome

actually its not like your loosing money to have DLC sit there... people buy it, then when more people buy ps3s even More buy it. And YES lots of people (just like in XBL) do buy the DLC on the PS3.

   Re: Shatterdome - 2007-06-17
 » You are losing money...

if not enough people buy it...you think DLC just appears ? No, it still has to be developed along the same lines as regular software...and then needs to be tested online to make sure it downloads and installs properly....if they don't think the market is there, it's not worth it.....

Lot's of % of PS3's out there are just running linux or folding...I know multiple people with PS3's that don't even plan on buying games....there is no such alternative with 360, it's a games machine, period....

   Re: XSX (Unregistered) - 2007-06-17
 » I agree with you

But like every company there only in it for money they couldn't care less about who help them in the beginning, and Statterdome just cause you know people that dont plan on buying games for there PS3 that doesnt mean every does to.

   Re: Shatterdome - 2007-06-17
 » No, not everyone...

But a certain percentage does, and probably a high one...

EVERYONE I know with a 360 has at least 3 games...becaue there is nothing else to do with it except play games...

   Re: XSX (Unregistered) - 2007-06-18
 » Do You

know its a high percentage show where you found this information and I have three games for my PS3 and I plan on buying two new ones by the end of this month .Dont assume prove with facts. Thats all I ask

   Re: Advertising -

   Re: Shatterdome - 2007-06-18
 » Well...

even if you pay attention to averages...

360 has twice as high of a software to console adoptation rate then PS3 (6 games average to 3 average)

360 has 3 times as many users out there with twice as many games per console...

If you were going to invest in users who buy games and extra content and more users equaling more chances of someone buying content, who would you go with.....duhh ?

I'm not going to waste my time finding links for you...if you follow the industry at all you know what i'm saying is true...

   Re: XSX (Unregistered) - 2007-06-18

how dare underestimate my intelligence of course the 360 will have have more users its been out for a year longer and that wasnt what I was asking. You said a high percentage of PS3 owners do not and have no plans on buying games for there PS3 I was asking where is the proof I didn't even mention the 360.

La Noire was a concept made by Sony. Sony paid Rockstar to made it. In the Eurogamer mag Rockstar said that it's a long term agreement with Sony.

   Re: Shatterdome - 2007-06-17
 » Well...

It doesn't matter if Sony got the ball rolling, if T2 remains the publisher, it will go to 360...

The only way for it to be exclusive to PS3 is for Sony to pick up the cost of publishing it, as well as dole out a nice royalty to Rockstar for the difference that they would be losing only supporting one console....

   Re: Eclipze_ (Unregistered) - 2007-06-17

I dont think it'll be an 360 exclusive. Qj should put RUMOR if there not sure. And really (in my opinion) i dont really care 2 much about this game.

   Re: Thomaticus (Unregistered) - 2007-06-17
 » clearance rack GTA

Actually... its rockstar and T2 that messed up.... they're going to have to give the ps3 episodic content now. They're going to lose money, cause now... people may not but the ps3 version of the game. They're making the game for both systems, therefore, both must sell well. Having exclusive episodic content wasn't something that MS paid for.. its there because, the devs can make additional money via xbox live. However, they might have to reconsider that strategy due to this leak.
I'll pick up the game for the ps3 when its on clearance.

 » Can't be more clear

There you go, first exclusive content must be paid. Microsoft has the install based to be able to push the exclusives more than Sony, they could possibly not afford to get GTAIV as an exclusive, but getting the downloadable content is sure a smart move for people who still are uncertain if they are buying the expensive PS3 or the more affordable Xbox360. Now they got something more on a system selling game, and juste getting the exclusives is sure going to help some ppl make their mind. It costed less to Microsoft doing so, and you get a similar result.

 » erm...

Bioshock is listed as being developed for next-gen systems as well, but its not coming to PS3, so I wouldnt jump to conclusions for LA Noire. The game is a project funded by Sony, and plus Take Two are mearly the distributors of the game; I think it would be better to wait for Team Bondi or Rockstar to make an announcement.

Regarding GTA4, and being a PS3 owner, Im really not that bothered. Sure if it were like Vice City/San Andreas content then I would be pissed, but the fact that its coming out as early as next year probably means that it will be the scale of what Knights of the Nine is to Oblivion... that being not very big.

   by TheONE (Unregistered) - 2007-06-17
 » ???

"Regarding GTA4, and being a PS3 owner, Im really not that bothered."

Well as we know nothing about the downloadable content itself yet, there isn't anything to be bothered or not bothered about. All we can do is wait and see.

Also, downloadable content coming out early next year tells us nothing about it's size, since that content was mentioned along with the game's announcement last year, so it's probably been in developement along side the main game itself. It's not as if they're starting on the downloable content after the game ships in October!
