Take-Two Interactive reveals Grand Theft Auto IV launch records - Image 1The parent company of Rockstar North has finally released their official statement regarding the details on the launch record of Grand Theft Auto 4 (PS3 and Xbox 360). The press release they sent out was able to confirm some the things that we reported earlier.

On the game's first week, it was able to sell about six million units globally with an estimated value of about US$ 500 million. What's even more surprising is that GTA 4 was able to sell 3.6 million units on its first day with a total retail value of about US$ 310 million globally.

This is certainly something that can wow people. Even though there were obstacles that seemed to block the way of the game (read: EA's attempted take-over and game delays), things pushed through successfully.

Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two's Chairman, remarked on the company's success, saying,

We knew Grand Theft Auto 4 would break new ground in terms of the player's experience, with its compelling story line, extraordinary gameplay and action that ranges over a broad urban canvas. Now, it has broken sales and rating records as well.

Grand Theft Auto 4's first week performance represents the largest launch in the history of interactive entertainment, and we believe these retail sales levels surpass any movie or music launch to date. We congratulate the entire Rockstar team on creating a must-have experience that takes the legendary Grand Theft Auto franchise to a new level.
