First Tekken movie teaser poster - Image 1News about the movie adaptation of the successful video game franchise Tekken from Namco Bandai are not entirely new. However, this next one is the most concrete so far with film website ComingSoon hosting the first teaser poster for the film.

Aside from that, ComingSoon was also able to get hold of some details regarding its development. Contrary to initial reports, ComingSoon stated that the Tekken movie isn't going to be directed by Anaconda's Dwight Little but by Charles Stone III - mostly known for movies Drumline, True, Mr. 3000, and Paid in Full.

We checked around the Internet and we found out as well that Little will be the director while Stone III is going to be part of the writing team. Well, the point is the two are very much involved in the making of the Tekken movie.

Speaking of development, it was mentioned that Sony Pictures' Screen Gems will be the one distributing the film. Moving on to the film itself, it is said to center on two childhood friends who entered the worldwide martial arts tournament where they will discover the dark secrets of the Tekken Corporation.

In case you are wondering, the the quotation that can be found at the top of the poster reads: "After the Great Terror Wars, governments fell... Seven corporations rose from the ashes to rule all men... Together they were known as The Iron Fist... The mightiest of which was... Tekken."

It went live first in Japan on August 1 while North America had it on August 30. It was priced for US$ 29.99 for full download and just US$ 9.99 for upgrade. Some of the exciting features that will be made available with Tekken 5 Online include:

  • Psych out your next opponent with live voice chat
  • Online News Ticker posting the weekly, monthly and overall rank leaders at any given point
  • Two new single-player modes, including Practice Mode, where you can hone your reflexes before battling online, and Survival Mode in which you must defeat as many opponents as possible with a limited health bar

Tekken 6 still has a few months left in the Namco dojo, so to speak, but series fans will have something to cool those fists of rage over at the PlayStation Network while they wait. By the end of this month, developers promise that Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection's online patch will be up for downloads. The devs talk about details in this clip:

Off the bat, the idea seems to be to turn PS3-equipped living rooms into virtual arcades where people take turns to try and topple dominant players. Consideration has been given to fine-tune the game's speed as combos which make or break fights will inevitably be compromised by lag issues. Details haven't been given as to what exactly was done to minimize this but Namco says they applied what's in the best interest of users everywhere.

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection is the PlayStation Portable's updated version of the PS2's Tekken 5. Heihachi Mishima's activities with his son and grandson has awakened their grand-daddy Jinpachi, and the Patriarch is out for blood. We'll give you an update as soon as a definite date is set for the patch's launch.
