Electronic Arts' The Godfather: Blackhand Edition on the Wii and The Godfather: The Don's Edition for the PlayStation 3 was just recently released and it seems as though a sequel is already in the making. Nollenberger Capital Partners (NCP) put together a financial analysis on EA and certain revelations about the company came up.The biggest one, is the fact that Godfather 2 is already in development. This came out in NCP's analysis which found that the company is actually using the development of the first game as a starting point in five different franchises. Interestingly, we learned that EA is leveraging the significant amount of development time and costs that went into The Godfather game. The open-world engine was built from the ground up for Godfather, and is now being used by five different franchises, including The Simpsons. Godfather 2 is also in development currently, though timing is unknown. Executive producer David DeMartini from EA has previously given word on BBC that the game would be a trilogy and it looks like they're following through with this statement. Gamers should watch out since the sequel might be arriving sooner than anyone (not in EA) expected. We'll bring more on this as new information comes up. |

The Godfather: The Don's Edition game versions for the Wii and the Playstation 3 are coming out March 20. Newsweek caught up with the game's designer, John Calhoun in an email interview, to ask him about his insight on making the two titles.John says that their engineering team at Electronic Arts (EA) began development on The Godfather early last summer. The design staff was already familiar with the SIXAXIS controller then, and it took the engineers only a couple more weeks to get The Godfather running in beautiful high-definition, and 30 frames-per-second. Comparing the gameplay of The Godfather in the PS3, and the Wii, John says that the Wii version is more physical, because of the Wii's motion sensors. The PS3 version, meanwhile, is more immersive, with the aid of Sony's next-gen controller. One of the challenges in making the PS3 game was the loss of the rumble in the old PS2 Dual Shock controller. But SIXAXIS, having a very impressive range of sensitivity, offers a new sense of physical involvement in playing the game. There are more grab attacks in the PS3 game, which makes for a very satisfying game play. The team considered using motion sensing in driving, but gave that up because it was hard to adapt it to the fast-paced action of The Godfather's chase sequences. But then, SIXAXIS already gives the players a unique, engrossing experience, making them very self-conscious of their smallest gestures. John Calhoun is also promised more addictive games involving the PS3's unique controller in the future. He and his team is ready to explore these possibilities - meaning more great SIXAXIS-equipped games for us. |

Mafia business ain't never been mild; things must be done right in order to please the Don. In this Explosive Deaths trailer video for The Godfather PS3 version, a mobster shows just that, performing stunts for the good of the Family. Wait 'til you see the electric box scene in the vid. That is like, cool.
The Godfather games are developed by Electronic Arts, with the latest title for the PS3 scheduled to come out on March 23, 2007. Just a trivial tidbit: some believe that the Mafia started in Sicily as a way to help out those who are weak, to protect those who are right. We guess that seeing the Mafia as bad is just a matter of looking at the other side of the story. One thing's for sure, though: don't try these stunts at home. Or ever. |

If you're going to beat someone up, you better do it right. Besides. You know full well Corleone doesn't want a sloppy job. While we've seen a couple of other screens for The Godfather: The Don's Edition before, you might be crying out, "C'mon they just show someone beating up another person, it all looks the same to me!" Well, here's something new: how-to screens. You better observe, and make sure you observe well. You've just got a couple of days left to learn how to get things right. No reason to be pansy anymore (oh, that's me included - harhar). Street rage? It's only a SIXAXIS controller away. |

The Godfather: The Don's Edition from EA is just a few days away. Here's another gameplay video showcasing what you can expect from the mob game.
A word of caution first. Boys and girls, please remember that this is a video game and not reality. Now that we have that out of the way, the rooftop gameplay video features... well, hurling people off of said rooftop (skylights included). It also has your character fighting multiple enemies and switching weapons - from Molotov cocktails to the iconic Tommy gun. As we wait for The Godfather: The Don's Edition to hit the shelves on March 23, we'll leave you to watch the video. Enjoy! |
