The Lord of the Rings: The White Council, is the newest RPG from Electronic Arts (EA) set to be shipped in late 2007. Initially clothed in mystery, EA revealed in July at its annual summer showcase in California, that indeed, the latest LOTR installment is under development as an "open world" role-playing game for the PC, the PS3, and Xbox 360.

Being molded to provide an overarching plot much like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, the White Council gameplay will feature numerous quests where players will also be able to create man, elf, dwarf, or hobbit characters.

LOTR stars Ian McKellen, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett and Christopher Lee have committed to lending their voices and likenesses to the game.

In the meantime, here are some new artworks of the enchanting LOTR: The White Council.

It seems like EA isn't going to stop beating it's cash cow even when everyone forgot the movies. *sigh* maybe they should just let criterion do all the original IPs for now on. I mean seriously, they had to buy friggin ubisoft to come out with something even remotely new. Kane and Lynch anyone?

these are not screenshots. Why do you guys say concept artworks are screenshots so much of the time? That can really throw some people off if they dont have time to look and catch your mistake. : /

When is a screen shot not a screen shot? When it's concept art! Come on QJ a bit of professionalism. Sure a few more impressionable users would have taken these as proper graphics and not a piece of paper with airbrush paint on it.

» i'd like it to be, but.. :/

that first one isnt either. Or if it is, it's been heavily overlayed with handdrawn elements. check out the birds to the right, the trees, and the mountains. plus the shading everywhere looks kind of hand drawn. Excellent image though. I think the low resolution is what makes it a little harder to tell.

sad. :/
