Boxes

Curious about how the PS3s are gonna get to the retail stores where your friends are camped out at right now? Wondering how fast supply should replenish? SCEA's Kaz Hirai told this bit to the press:

We are trying everything we can to get as many units into the North American market as possible. The thing that we're trying to focus on now is shortening the lead time from the factories to the retailers and consumers. Usually, something this size and weight we would put on a boat, but what we're doing is chartering planes to fly them in ... that combined with trying to ramp up production as quickly as possible as well.

Of course the real challenge here is to continually restock supply to retailers. Hirai said that Sony will be replenishing the retail channel on a weekly basis. However, SCEA executive vice-president Jack Tretton, sort of promised a bit more by saying that retailers will be getting shipments daily.

If he means that supply will be continuous after the initial 400,000, than that's certainly a good thing. But that's just us wishing for the best. Well we certainly hope things go as planned. We wouldn't want a repeat of previous console launches. *twiddles thumbs...*

Sony is doing something thats unheard of to get the PS3 to NA. Using Charter planes, its not only a much more expensive method of delivery, buts its the fastest by far.

Who knows, come back to your favorite game store and they might have received a couple units that day. Come back a few days later and other few units.

As long as the game stores push their inventories just as quick, it should help distribute the ps3s to us people who weren't lucky enough to wait 4 days in line to get them or pay 1000 bucks to take over a place in line.

I really hope this helps kill the prices for ps3s on ebay and craigslist. I had a mom waiting behind me in line waiting with her daughter because she wanted the ps3. The mom stuck her neck out for her but she was turned away with about 4 more people in front of us. I felt bad she couldn't get one when there was a group of 15 people at the front of the line where 9 of them were going to be used for line place sales on craigslist.

» well, i'm not waiting in line

cos i live in the uk and i'll have to wait 5 months or seomthing ridiculous... and then i won't be able to get my hands on a ps3 for like 2 weeks cos there won't be enough to go around.
you people in america should count your lucky starts that it's got to you on time, whether there are some there right now or not is immaterial, i'm willing to bet you get yours before i get mine!

If you didn't get it when it launch, you can still get it at the week after that, and after that, and after that... just until there's enough supply.

that's a lie there won't be anymore shipping to the US or anywhere until Feb 07... so much for waiting a week to get one...
