This is just a quick off-topic post. A Jacksonville GameStop was robbed by thieves that tunneled through the back wall. The thieves were probably looking for PS3s (judging from the way the boxes were scattered). But they learned the display boxes were empty, so they stole 13 Xbox 360 consoles instead. |

wow, they must have been pretty disappointed to leave with some measly xbox 360's
since they were looking for PS3's and came up empty handed, thats why i say that, although i believe it is going to cue a flame war... so... FLAME ON!
PS3s have higher cash value right now so of course they went for PS3s. PS3's value as a game console is considerably less. You can tell they weren't gamers.
Did we strike a nerve mister xbot?
Someone can't take a joke...
"criminal trash whose parents should have been neutered individuals looking to make a quick buck"
ah that's great
You know, I have been wondering something for a while... and maybe someone on this network can help me out.
If someone stole a PS3, wouldn't it just pointless. I would think that when the stolen ps3 connected to the internet, Sony would be able to tell via some kind of identification system for each individual ps3. Then just slap a red light to the stolen ps3's serial (or whatever it may be called) number and be able to tell exactly where and when the stolen ps3 connected? Then, considering there are updates frequently needed for the smooth running of the system, in say, one year the games developped would be developped under the assumption that every ps3 has said updates, and so playing these games without those updates wuold be impossible.
Now this is just my interpretation of it, but I would like to know if there is foundation to my speculation. Can a stolen ps3 connect to the internet or would it get flagged as soon as it connected?
Since most stores only record the serial numbers of system when they are selling them and some don't record them at all I don't think your idea would works.
Unless Sony (or any company for that matter) themselves know which serial numbers are going to which stores I can't see how they could really do it.
i suppose this is a what if just a guess, since sony has a track record of which ps3's goes to which store, they also have the serials for those and the mac address of each ps3 of course. they can simply banned such ID online and have the user report the ps3 with proper receipt to sony customer service as to why their ps3 is non-functional on internet. thus the first step in resolving the robbery.
but i doubt sony will be doing this as it will not favor them to reap high rewards. but it will certainly make a ps3 more secure.
why would they take the effort to prevent crime? crime gives them publicity. besides, it is people that get shot (not Sony, so Sony doesnt care) and it is stores that get robbed (not sony, so Sony doesnt care either). sony just wants publicity, they are a big international business and businesses like that dont care if people get hurt because of their products. remember, this si the company that made exploding batteries.
Most companies do care when their product directly hurts people because that means they've done something wrong. Hence laptop battery recalls.
People wantting to steal and doing anything it takes to get a product is another thing all together, which is an indirect affect of the company making a good product.
You combine both direct and indirect, which is wrong. Go use your twisted logic to bash Sony elsewhere.
"and it is stores that get robbed (not sony, so Sony doesn't care either)."
ARE YOU STUPID!! IT IS SONY THATS GETTING ROBBED! OF COURSE SONY CARES IF THEIR CONSOLE GETS STOLEN! They would be in debt billions of dollars if their console was constantly being stolen from stores and not purchased.
You are one dumb kid, think about what your saying before you say it.
I'm sorry if i offended you but that statement is so utterly idiotic it made me laugh so hard and also made me feel bad for your lack of knowledge at the same time.
sony has made their money from the ps3's.... they are sold to the stores and the stores sell them to the public.
I work in retail, in the receiving area and have to deal with invoices and accounts payable.
true, there is a small grace period, where you can have the product and have to pay later... it allows stores to buy more stock and use the profits to cover the debts.
but if the product is stolen, the store holds the bag and the corporation still gets it money. weither the corporation cares if stores get ripped off after they get their peice of the pie... probally not.
