Silver Platters Northgate - Image 1A group of thieves are currently on the run after stealing 200 Blu-ray discs from giant retailer, Silver Platters. Seattle Times reports that the burglary at Northgate is currently under investigation, after around US$ 7,000 worth of Blu-ray discs were snagged.

Almost all of the store's Blu-ray selection were taken away, said Silver Platters Vice President Mike Batt. The same retailer offers HD-DVDs and DVDs, but they were left unharmed.

Recent reports say that Blu-ray discs are outselling HD-DVD five-to-one. Even in Europe, where more HD-DVD players are reaching households than the stand alone Blu-ray player, Sony's high-definition format is still ahead in sales figures.

The store, which had blu-ray disks stolen, also had music from video games. Since there was music from a game, it must've been the cause for the theft. I'm reporting this to Thompson right away!

The store now has to re-order those blu ray movies, which will help the sales.

Way to go for the win blu ray crooks!

It signifies that even if they're free, there is no market for them. Think about it this guy is going to sell these in the street/at a flea market for $10 bucks apiece. He knew no one was going to spend that much on hd-dvd, because no one cares.

This is clearly an attempt by the HD-DVD camp to stifle the Blu-ray market.

It's actually free publicity and advertisement for blu ray side. Well not free but the store probably have some insurance policy anyway.

"Even in Europe, more HD-DVD players are reaching households than the stand alone Blu-ray player"

FFS this is the worst example of blatent spin I've ever seen, and it's still being quoted by blog sites.

They're not counting the PS3 in those stats, even though it's a Blu Ray player. Why? So the HD DVD camp can claim there are more HD DVD players than Blu Ray.

On another note, I have more money than Bill Gates if you don't count his cash, assets or stock.

   Re: Semi (Unregistered) - 2007-07-26
 » Kind of

your SORT OF right, but don't forget that the PS3 is also a Gaming Console, and that if they counted the PS3 they'd have the MSFT fanboys (God I hate them, they give gamers bad names) jumping all over saying "THAT WRONG!!111 TEH PEICE OF SHEET TREE IS LEIK, LUL A GAEM SESYTUM! IT R B NOT USED FER MOVIEHS BY MUCH LOTS PEOPLE!" or somthing similar to that.

   Re: omg (Unregistered) - 2007-07-26
 » i h8 that

whenever people try to "describe" fanboys of different consoles, they always have to say (and spell) some ridiculous *****. Just say retard xbox fanboys from now on mmmkay?

   Re: ck - 2007-07-26
 » Um...

No, I'm entirely right.

The PS3 is helping drive BD sales, so is a significant statistic. The chances are a large number of PS3 owners will go on to build a library of BD titles and then perhaps go for a standalone player as well, once the hardware prices are lower and they have a few more titles. In the mean time they're buying BD instead of HD DVD. It's still sales of media, so of course it counts if you're looking at sales figures for each format.

Leaving PS3 out of any stats makes the results worthless because of the massive skew it introduces, which is exactly what these guys wanted when they did the survey.

Also, nobody in their right mind is going to buy a PS3 AND a Blu-Ray player at the moment, so of course there are a crapload fewer Blu-Ray players out there if you don't count the PS3. It still counts as a player, and it's still resulting in market share for the media.

spot on

no matter how the HD-DVD camp play with their words... whether they like it or not, the PS3 IS a BluRay player

I for one, am using it as a BluRay player more than playing games on it

Is that how Fanboys talk using that type of language. like (TEH PEICE OF SHEET TREE) Half the time i can't even understand what that means.

And people call me a fanboy right. But you and CK makes a good point.
