PS3_front - Image 1 Anyone in Europe at the moment might be feeling a little tired of the PS3 launch plan fluctuating recently. With price changes for Ireland and more rumors of yet another launch delay for Europe, Sony fanboys in Europe can't help but feel stressed.

Here's another news that might give Sony fans something to ponder on. A post on the semi-official PlayStation blog Three Speech says that Sony will not be releasing a 20GB PS3 at launch due to lack of demand, with most gamers expected to purchase the well-equipped, more expensive 60GB model.

There has been no confirmation from Sony yet, so please do take this with a grain of salt. But if this turns out to be true, what does this mean for UK gamers? Well, the blog does say that the 20GB model will not be present at launch but it still may well head to the UK at some point. Is this a wise move for Sony? Well, only time can tell. But I bet every European Sony fanboy will agree with me when I say, surely a few 20GB versions wouldn't hurt?

i agree. the uk always get everything late. first the initial delay and if this is true, then fk sony

   Re: CHUCKINGROCKSATSPACESHIPS - 2007-01-18
 » Why?

My self I would hate to wait in line for days only to get a 20gig PS3 when I have wi-fi. If you are that dedicated to wait in line for days then you should be able to get the best, at least thats what I think.

it means a bigger allocation of 60GB versions.
   by death69 - 2007-01-17
» should have been that way at launch

never understood why they bother with the stripped down one anyway so some stupid ass will buy the stripped down and and pay for upgrades later shakes head

if im going to pay that much for a system im going to pay a little more to get the better one

but I wont even pay anywhere near what they want for any of them shrugs ....but every time i talk myself out of getting a ps3 or a 360 im looking to get the bigger one of the two

hate to see they day i loose that fight with myself and pay 3x to much for a game system than any should ever cost

75% of the sales of the PS3 in the US were 60GB models. Nobody wants the tard version...

   Re: niakrya (Unregistered) - 2007-01-18
 » 25%

So 25% of the sales in the US was for the 20GB model. Out of every 4 PS3 gamers, 1 of them has the 20GB model. How is that nobody?

The 60 gig PS3 has wi-fi which you can use to connect to the PSP with while the 20 gig does not.

sony sucks anyways, i cant believe i still play something made by them, the ps3 was and is a bomb, it is already a failure

How is it a failure? It's sold more in it's launch period than the 360 did.

This is related to the PSP how?

I love my PSP, but I couldn't give a rats arse about the PS3. Nor any other 3rd gen-console. If I want to read about the ps3 I'll go to the PS3 site.

I guess I should pull my head in a bit though, this isn't my site and I don't get a say in what gets posted and what doesn't. I guess most people are interested in seeing PS3 news in the PSP section?

Yeah! Sony are totally idiots for allowing people to save some money by not getting things they may not use (wifi, mmc, sd)! No...wait...

» not in the UK but...

i wouldn't buy the 60gb version... if HDMI had been only on the 60gb version then yes, however...

i don't want a memorystick reader, or wifi (54

vs1000).

so $100 extra for 40gigs extra? i just recently filled 20 gigs on the 360 with HD videos, how am i going to need any more than 20gigs in the next year... oh yeah piracy...

sony throws on some bells and whistles and jacks the price $100 and the cheap one is the "tard" version!?!?

when $100 can mean the difference between paying your bills and not paying your bills... you'd have to be a "tard" to shell out the cash for that crap...

sounds to me like they lose more money on the core and want the brits to foot the lion's share of the bill...

   Re: .. (Unregistered) - 2007-01-18
 » ..

when $100 is the difference between paying your bills or not.... then i suggest you don't buy a ps3, work some more hours and then buy one when you can afford it

 » Sony

Makes makes an addition 50 bucks loss on all 20GB models compared to the 60GB. So I´m guessing that´s there real reasoning.

Oh and stop whoring out your article on wrong sections and stick to ps3

Wi-fi, do I need to say anymore?
   by MACRIKE (Unregistered) - 2007-01-17
 » .

What's the surprise?? I don't remember seeing any Basic Pack in the PSP launch, only Value Pack came around to Europe. Same thing's gonna happen to PS3.

And no, it's not 100€ just for extra 40GB. Have you forgot the Wi-Fi and the Multi Card Reader?

I think that if I buy a 360, then addon Wi-Fi, a Card Reader (oh sugar, there isn't one for 360) and a 60GB HDD (oh damn, 360 can only get 20GB...) then it'll cost just the same as the PS3.

Just stop bugging about Sony and be happy. If you don't like PS3, just ignore it!

The real reason is because they lose about another $60 on the 20GB version, so they want to make as few of them as they can.

Has there even been any 20GB models released in the U.S. or Japan since launch?

 » PS3 Sucks

Only reason why they're doing that is because everyone has been waiting over here for so long if they dont supply a 20gig model everyone is going to have to pay more money for the 60gig version, therefore Sony get more money from all the consumers who've been waiting for months.

Personally i'm glad i switched to the Xbox 360 back in May - i was going to get a PS3, but Sony suck now, they dont give a damn about any consumers, they're only out there now for the money.

Why do you talk about "rumors of another launch delay" when you've already established that your previous post about this was wrong - there's no delay?

You don't HAVE to post is there's no news, we'll all still be checking in. Unless we get too annoyed with all the no-story stories that is, seems to be a lot of them lately!

its all about website hits.

They create a stir so when you google the ps3 euro launch.... you will see articles about a ps3 delay leading to this site.

when you are here..... qj hopes that you will click on that dude trying to lie down under the passing bus, or that screensavers ad on the corner.

 » WTF

i was gonna get the 20gig version - not coz i'm an idiot; totally opposite reason, - my family's w/less router sits in my room; so i can just Ethernet the PS3 & 20gig HDD is too small, so i was gonna plug in a much larger 1 as soon as i purchase the PS3 (whats the point of getting a 60gig & then having 2 change the HDD l8r)

does any1 know if the PS3 can use an external HDD to save games onto & download stuff on it from PS Store & rip games on it?

thanks

 » This isn't new

I thought that this was announced about 6 months ago, not sure if there was an official announcement but I am sure someone at SCEE said that they probably wouldn't release the 20Gb in the UK. I don't know any UK stores that have taken Pre-Orders for the 20Gb version.

doesn't bother me..even if i was getting one

if ur gonna spend that much money, you might as well spend an extra £50 and get the best availiable.... the ps4 won't be out for years and years so the difference in price is v small tbh

 » well...

I'm gonna get the 20gb version WHEN it hits Europe, becasuse:

Wifi = There WILL be some sort of solution for it.

Card Reader = I already have a usb+memory card hub that I can use if I ever need to.

HDD = If I ever need a bigger one, I just plugin my external 3.5" or buy a 2.5" and swap out the old one!

there was pretty much nothing between Jan and March. It was truly piss poor.

You have to hand it to Sony, their supply has been fantastic... too bad they didn't launch with more games...
