Happy Friday the 13th! As such, it's also Happy Resident Evil 5 day! The game's out and about, lurking around retail shelves, and for some people, there seems to be some triskaidekaphobia* going on. Yesterday, Capcom announced the upcoming DLC scheduled for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 of Resident Evil 5. Just as we expected, Jill Valentine and Albert Wesker are going to be playable. More screens can be found below, but to elaborate more on the Versus mode, it's actually split into two game types, both of which can be played as one-on-one or two-versus-two:
Although Versus mode makes use of the assets that exist in the game, the functionality is not currently in the game and is above and beyond the initial scope of Resident Evil 5. We have never included a Versus mode in Resident Evil before, and as well as the costs of development of the feature, there's also additional bandwidth costs associated with it. It may be worth mentioning that one of the reasons why people think the Versus mode is on-disc content is because of some evidence found in the Trophies list. Apparently, ten Trophies are unlocked via Versus-Slayer and Versus-Survivor mode, so hearing Capcom say that the Versus mode wasn't part of the initial scope seems quite odd. And yes, the DLC (which actually sounds more of a patch now) doesn't add anything new like characters or weapons - it just adds functionality for the Versus mode, which uses already existing objects and assets from the disc. Hmmm. Anyways. More screens! * triskaidekaphobia - for those who are lazy to google it, that'd be the fear of the number 13. Ahh yes, learn something new every day, huh? Related articles:

» Stop complaining about paying for DLC!!!!
People need to understand that companies are in this business to make money. I for one would prefer to pay for new content/features for a game that I like, rather than to have none it at all.
And the argument that it's already on the disc is not a valid argument. So what if it's already on the disc! Have you ever thought that maybe the company put in the extra time, effort, and expense to get the extra content completed before the game was released because they knew they was going to charge for it after it's released. Without the ability for paid dlc they may have decided to not build that extra contect/feature becuase they weren't going to make any extra money on it and it wasn't worth the expense of developing it in the first place.
So stop complaining about the paid dlc...if you don't want it, don't buy it!

So what? Just because a company is out to make money, doesnt mean they arent out to rip you off, and bilk you at every turn. IF the content is already on teh disc you bought and you are paying to unlock that feature that BS. IF the content doesnt exist on the disk, and you want to add it to the game pricing is fine. We ALL have downloaded DL content before, and we know who is really ripping us off and who isnt. We can exercise our power by not buying that crap. Too bad you cant control the idiots who are fooled because its a low "rate" and dont think about the effects of nickle and diming (the easiest way to rip someone off actually).

» Well said Ninjiz
I believe this feature should be classed as an update and not DLC. It's already on the disc but isnt fully set up. An update fix's bug that couldnt't be fixed before releasing the game. As for bandwidth costs, you don't see game developers charging for game updates because they can't afford the bandwidth costs for sending millions of updates around the world. If Criterion games can support Burnout Paradise for free, I'm sure all the other high quality and game giant developers can afford to do the same.

» Not gonna complain
Just gonna give a nice "f*ck you" to Capcom and fully exercise my right to not buy this garbage. And buy SF4 and RE5 used or something because I don't have a hacked box
$4 for five costumes in SF4 my ass

» Oh, cry more.
$5. Last time I checked, that's not a fortune by any means. MGO made you pay $9.99 or more fore complete trash, no one cried about that.

» But
Konami does give you more maps, game modes and characters that werent in the disc to begin with.

» Yeah cuz...
new maps that add more vaiety to an ONLINE game is definetly trash.
How bout nobody complained because it was good DLC, not a tacked on
multiplayer that probably could've been in the game originally.

» Umm...
Does Capcom seriously think their game is that good for people to buy their DLC? Man this game is way too hyped.

» This game killed the RE Series
This whole game is garbage. One step forward two steps back. They should just hurry up and do the reboot. Better yet they should sell the franchise and let a better company have a go on it. Once again, this game is PURE GARBAGE.
