If you're one of the many people who enjoy a round of videogame footie as much as the actual thing, here's a bit of a treat from Electronic Arts: an in-depth look at one of the more immersive modes of UEFA Euro 2008 (PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PSP). It's the Captain Your Country mode, and from what we've read about it, it looks as epic as it sounds. So what is Captain Your Country? It's pretty much the game's single player campaign, only this time three more buddies can join you in the road to success. As your own customized player or even a real-life football star selected from the official roster, you and three more players can work their way up from being a fringe player in the international leagues to a bonafide participant in the game's finals at Vienna. That means from B-International to a representative of your very own country in the international battlefield of football - and it's no easy task. But why four players? Why not just make it a bog-standard, single-player experience? EA's own Matt Prior, Associate Producer of this project, explains that the multiplayer option is a heavy factor in Captain Your Country. This is through the fact that the more you do in a match, the better your match ratings (and chances of getting recognized) become - and you'll be darned if you let the three other players take the spotlight away from you, even if you're all in the same team. So there's definitely room to be underhanded or even sneaky, just to get the most exposure - whether by trudging on and doing things all by your lonesome, or cleverly not choosing to pass to any of your competitors. What else is there to be excited about Captain Your Country? Well, besides the deal that your player's experience affects both his stature and performance, Electronic Arts has made sure that all the customized player experience is all here. From letting you choose what the commentators call your player to the cutscenes showing off your character's dynamics with the other players, you'll be hard-pressed to find a more immersive football pro experience. And yes, when you reach the top, you'll see your very own creation lift up the EURO trophy into the air - an epic punctuation mark to an already awesome journey.
