Thanks to the powers of the internet, you'll now have to keep your PlayStation 3 units connected all the time, just to keep up with the constant enhancements they're piling onto the console. This week is no different, as IGN reports the coming of Firmware 1.5 to Japan.

FW1.5, which will be out on the 24th, will add new payment options for use with the PlayStation Store, among other things. On the payment side, the PS3 will soon allow for "Edy" system payments. This form of e-money requires an IC Reader/Writer though, which limits its use to people who own the hardware that supports Edy currency and know how to connect their readers to the PS3.

The update also includes Korean language support for keyboard inputs and more PS1 and PS2 games on their list of compatible titles. For most of us, the big news will definitely come in the form of an updated compatibility list, so we'll keep checking for the update when it's out. In the meantime, sit tight, and let's see what the US firmware update will be like once someone from Sony America tells us what's up.

How do you load PS1 games into the PSP if you have official latest updated firmware ?.

Everything to do this (except the ISO extractor tool) can be downloaded from pspupdates.qj.net. Read the forums for better instructions. If you have firmware 2.8 or later or a T082 motherboard, you're SOL.
Downgrade PSP firmware to 1.5. Upgrade to Dark_Alex's 3.03 OE-B firmware. Download a popstation GUI and ISO extractor tool to your computer. Put in your PS1 disc and extract a .bin file then use the popstation GUI program to convert it to an eboot.
I would hate for somebody to buy a PS3 for such a stupid reason.

TA-082 mobo users CAN downgrade, as can 2.8 FW users...sheesh

Yeah I forgot about that. I didn't have to worry because I never updated past 1.5.

So where's the DVD upscaling $ony? Oh yeah there won't be because it could hurt blu ray movie sales. For a free network they sure put lots of emphasis on selling you more stuff.

whats your problem dude? if you want something better than the ps3, YOU go make it

   Re: Vietone - 2007-01-23
 » Idiot

An upscaled DVD looks severely worse then a Blu-ray movie.

Its like the difference between a VHS and a DVD.

Re: Mr. Common Sense (Unregistered) - 2007-01-23
 » ha!

With DVD I can watch the movies I already own in HD and ones that may never be released on blu ray. The quality isn't as good, but it's so much better than a regular DVD player. Cheaper too! You don't care about that though. I'd say you're the idiot.

now what the heck do those have to do with each other? nothing. i think that they won't add upscaling for a looong time to come. there are a LOT more important things to improve first.

 » i agree

what good is it playing ps2 and psone games if they look as blurry and fuzzy as news reel footage from 1945?

   Re: antaeus - 2007-01-23
 » ...

you guys do know that to play your PS2 games on the PS3 and for them to look like they should you should play them over composite cables and NOT HDMI thats why its good to have both cables connected to the PS3 and your TV

 » I want a REAL update!

I WANT MULTITASKING WHILE DOWNLOADING FFS!

That, and (DVD) upscaling. And music while playing games.

in their time. Everything takes time, just chill.

And to antaeus: That is not exactly true. If you have the composite cables and the hdmi cables hooked on at the same time, you can only display one signal at a time.

In other words, if you want to use composite cables, you have to go into the video setting and change it from HDMI. This is complete crap, and can be fixed by a firmware update.

 » problem is

i think the problem is that thares not much funding going into the making of updates, so good updates take atleast 5 months to make. from whats seen with the PSP (even if we don't like the patches thay come with) good things do take a long time, so i would expect the fix to crappy looking games to come in march, and somthing nice like multi tasking to come late july. i always do wonder, how manny people are on the firmware making team? and do thay now use the same team to make PS3 and PSP firmwares?
