War never looked so pretty: this year's Tokyo Game Show just released a volley of awesome trailers, and this video clip promoting Sega's Senjou no Valkyrie (or Battle Field Valkyrie) for the PlayStation 3 is one of them.

Rendered in muted pastels that one usually finds in picture books, the visuals in Senjou no Valkyrie just evokes the feeling of comfort, further reinforced by the use of cel-shaded graphics.

However, let's not forget that Senjou no Valkyrie is first and foremost a war simulation, and Sega's upcoming PS3 release certainly does not look lacking in that department. For some reason, firearms look good with the female lead, and the two protagonists just appear as if they're born to drive that hand-drawn tank.

We could go on and on raving about it, but nothing's better than watching the actual trailer. That said, click on the Play button on the video below!

Senjou no Valkyrie scans - Image 1

While photo-realistic graphics, bump-mapping and other high-end visual styles may be the order of the day in this generation of videogaming, it certainly doesn't hurt to take a step back and enjoy some good old-fashioned, cel-shaded graphics with soft hues and shades. Such is the case with Sega's upcoming title, Senjou no Valkyrie for the PS3 (Battle Field Valkyrie in English), the title that promises to offer quality next-gen gaming with the warm fuzzy feeling of nostalgia. We see that and more in this scan update of the game, courtesy of the good people over at Famitsu.

In these scans, we get intimately acquainted with the game's male and female lead. While we don't know much about them or the war they're fighting, their facial expressions tell quite a tale, conveying all the subtle nuances of emotion even with a simplified visual style. We also get a peek at how the game would look like in action, and suffice to say it's looking very delicious indeed. It seems that the female lead has more of a sniper's role in the game, while the male has a handle on the demolitions aspect of the war - as we see him charging a tank up-close.

Certainly a very mysterious title coming from Sega, but definitely one of the game company's prettier games in terms of visual style. As always, keep it locked right here for further updates, and enjoy the scans!

Senjou no Valkyrie (Battle Field Valkyrie) Teaser Site Opens - Image 1

If you've been waiting for more information on Sega's Senjou no Valkyrie (Battle Field Valkyrie), it doesn't look like you'll have to wait much longer. A teaser site has just opened for the game saying that it will be featured at this year's Tokyo Game Show.

This game is an original IP for the PlayStation 3 created by a few members of the Sakura Taisen development team. The gameplay is said to combine action, strategy, and RPG elements in one package. The game's distinctive visual style is due to the new graphical technique called Canvas which gives the look similar water color painting.

So, we'll probably be hearing more of this game as we creep closer to TGS 2007 which will be held between September 20 to 23. No release date has been announced yet for Japan and certain sites have labeled the game as unreleased in the U.S.

Hopefully, we'll be seeing an English version of this game heading our way if this becomes popular in Japan.
