Warhawk not as download but on Blu-Ray disc - Image 1

When Phil Harrison mentioned in the GDC that Warhawk would be "available as only a download," it turns out that things have been misinterpreted. While everyone has been talking about the Incognito Entertainment title zooming into the PlayStation Network, it was natural to assume it would indeed be available via download. Apparently, it isn't so.

IGN has received word from a Sony rep and things have finally cleared up:

Officially, Warhawk will be released as a Blu-ray-based product. It will see release in late summer... Phil was only addressing what the future of downloadable content meant for the industry and how important online support will be for games. He didn't make any announcements.

Say what? So he didn't actually say the "available as only a download" thing after all? IGN's Hilary Goldstein, who was at the event at that time, clarifies:

Harrison said that "by the next generation of consoles there likely wouldn't be a need for disc-based media." That's how we got onto the whole subject of Warhawk and how there's already a discussion for a beta program, the benefits of downloadable demos, etc. But never did he actually say "Warhawk will be available only as a download."

Ok. Well, that's a relief. Now we can rest easy. So, long thing short: if you want to play Warhawk online, you'd need a disc - not download it. However, it could be that the Beta would be available via download... We'll keep you guys on cruise control for now. More updates as they come about.

 » well then

I guess it's best if everyone stops speculating on this game until it's on a retail shelf or the ps store. This flipflopping is getting out of control.

This is where I heard it:

Online only games don't belong on shelves IMO. The 360's shadowrun is gona be the same. I feel sorry for the non online gamers that pick these titles up.

I agree antaeus, hopefully it's well advertised and clearly marked on it's packaging that it's online multiplayer only.

 » Stupid Phil

Phil Harrison has really dropped the ball, way to many times. He doesnt even know his own product. Sony needs to find a more competent rep, becasue phil is losing respect fast.

that wait he said was misinterpreted. It was stated in bold that "never did he actually say 'Warhawk will be available only as a download.'"
