Warhawk: no sharing allowed - Image 1

While other PSN titles have always allowed users to share the download among five other PS3 units, SCEA has confirmed that the PSN version of Warhawk does not allow users to pass around the game too freely. Its sharing capabilities have been curbed to be more limited.

It's going to be tied to the PSN account that bought the download. Now while the download would be available for the five other PS3 units, it would still have to be played under the purchaser's account. The amount of time that the five other units can play the game under the original account is further limited to 24 hours only.

SCEA confirmed this to Next-Gen, saying that they're using an "alternative Digital Rights Management (DRM) policy" for Warhawk to "protect [their] investment." This, fortunately, doesn't necessarily mean that it will be implemented for all PSN titles in the future. Every time they roll out a game on PSN, DRM policies would always have to be assessed based on costs in development, servers, and maintenance.

For those wondering, the alternative DRM policy will not be affecting the Blu-ray version of Warhawk.

No simpathy from me. It's about time Sony did something about file sharing. I would rather it be a software option like this than some a firmware upgrade that affects my PS3. Stealing is wrong... ...mKay?

i agree with the no sharing, but not because of the reasons they give.
if the reason for this is because of costs in development, servers, and maintenance lets hope they have ironed out the freezing kinks and comm bollocks that the beta had, which, if what i read on the playstaion us site is true! they havent. if this game is total bollocks, do you think i will get my money back? very doubtful!

What you do if rub bacon grease all over your body, and slide along the bathtub. After 5 minutes of said activity and your PS3 will downgrade to 1.1 firmware and then you can run the Team Topaz exploit for full ISO loading which will compress blu-ray to DVD size or less.

If you login to a playstation store account that purchased the game and go into your purchased games section, you can download the game onto any PS3 that you are on. That is what they are talking about. I bought the game online last night (not knowing about this) and now I am thinking I may have made a mistake. What happens if I format my Hard Drive and want to play the game on my PS3 again and not pay? Will I be limited 24 hours?

» you dont have to wrry Cid

The security will recognize your PS3 MAC Address, this is written in the hardware, it will not change if you format your hard drive or anything similar. As long as it is the same PS3 and the same online account that bought the game your are OK.

I get not sharing the game to other PS3s but why the hell can't other accounts on the same PS3 play it?

by Mister Common Sense - 2007-08-28
 » yep

That's why I always get the disc version of games.

   Re: Thinker (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28
 » To Common Sense

I like to buy physical discs as well, although my reasons have more to do with the preference of being able to actually see and handle the disc, as well as not having to worry about having to backup the media in case the hard disk gets corrupted (this includes downloads bought from the Internet on a Computer as well). It's just, I don't know, I like tangible media rather than a download that I can't ensure will always work.

What makes you think the DRM on the disc version is any different from the downloadable one?

"What makes you think the DRM on the disc version is any different from the downloadable one?"

Well, this line in the article above - For those wondering, the alternative DRM policy will not be affecting the Blu-ray version of Warhawk - reinforced my impression that the disc can run for different PSN IDs, but hey, I could be wrong :).

Ok, lets say i need to send in my PS3 and get a refurb back, can I work out a way with SONY to get my game working?

Re: Johnny Borell - Lead Singer of Razorlight (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28
 » Doesn't matter

As long as you use your same PSN handle then you can download it on up to 5 different PS3s.
   by Clarifier (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28
 » Understand the new DRM

This new security means, you can download the game on up to 5 different PS3. This does not mean you can play them simultaneously. When you logon on one PS3 you will not be able to play with your account (the one you used to buy warhawk) on another PS3 for another 24 hours. This means you will have no problem if you buy another PS3 or refurbish it. You just will not be able to play warhawk before 24 hours from the last time you logged on to the game on another PS3.

I love DRM good for me bad for poor people !

 » Warhawk is overpriced...

You pay $42.00 for a multiplayer only game that only comes with five maps. It's a rip off!

   by whocares (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28
 » whocares

frankly i've had it with the "oh warhawk is amazing".

it's crappy and it shows when sony's servers have been going loopy for online play on almost every major game because they released warhawk and didn't add extra server support.

and if anyone thought they could buy a 40.00 game and just share it then clearly they are stupid!

warhawk is one of those overblown disasters that will just destroy the little fun that was left in online play on the so called Free sony web servers.
