First, Sony decides that the next-generation of Playstation controllers will incorporate tilt-sensors. Now, the coming iteration of the Eye Toy peripheral may incorporate 3D motion sensing technology.

Does it look like the next-gen Nintendo is giving the PLAYSTATION 3 a run for its money every day that passes?

Don't mind me: my successor will put the "3" in "PS3"

Prime Sense Inc., an Israeli-based start-up, was linked to Sony and Eye Toy upgrade reports in both an EETimes Online article and a snippet from PS3 Land's website. Reports state that the company has developed a sensor package that will map realtime movements in 3D space. Nintendo wags may note (their discomfort optional) that giving the Eye Toy this capability could allow the peripheral - and games which support it - to mimic or at least parallel the capabilities of the Wii's Remote-Nunchuck combination (Too bad then that it's only limited to Eye Toy-designed games).

Neither Prime Sense nor Sony will provide any details on the sensor - or even any purported linkup - so far. The EETimes article goes on to note that a design win for "an unfunded and unproven startup... would be unprecedented." On the other hand, the same article also reports that the company recently raised around US$9 million in first-round investments, and that among the company leadership are two former members of Israel's military research establishments.

 » PS3

Alot of the writers here that post new news sure write alot of lies and bs about PS3. I mean really... sounds like some of these ppl are sony haters.

I mean Sony did not freakin copy the wii controller or freakin any of it junk. Sony have this idea for the PS3 controller for a long time and already done it for a ps1 controller yrs. ago even with the rumbler but it was more mess up and not as good and it was alittle big for a controller.

Like dumb gamecube and n64 and xbox controllers, lol.
Maybe nto that big , lol. But anyways... Sony want everything for the PS3 to be future proof and totally new and next gen and better then anything else, lol.

They have this idea for the eye toy from the start I beileve and they went back and thinked how to make the eye toy better and what to add to the new one from looking at the ps2 one.

Yeah gamecube did'nt do anything like this and ps2 did for a eye toy. So duh thisi s not takeing anything from nintento at all.

Sony never takes other ppl stuff or lie about there products so all you lieing little inmature kids need to shut up and grow up and face the real world and stop lieing to your self.

» WHO CARES IF THEY 'STOLE THE IDEA'

Why does anyone give a ***** whether they 'stole the idea' or not. First off, they probably found out about the motion on the wii only a few months before E3 and they had playable games with the motion sensor at E3.

So you people are saying that Sony saw the Wii. Liked it. Rushed to get a sweatshop going that produced the chips and gyros and all that crap. Got the info to the makers of 'Warhawk' and got a playable game with the controllers ready in a few months?

That would be amazing in the first place but then you guys go an say that sony sucks and cant get anything done in time. So pick one, do you think they can make a controller really fast, or cant do anything quickly?

 » What does this mean?

I dont get this article. Does the Wii have a motion capture device or something. Why does it say "Does it look like the next-gen Nintendo is giving the PLAYSTATION 3 a run for its money every day that passes?" This article doesnt say the Wii has this.

» Don't care if it's copied or not.

Unless Sony manages to convince major third-party companies to make really immersive Eye Toy games, it doesn't really matter how good it is. Although someone like Kojima might play around with it, most compaines have avoided or ignored the current Eye Toy. In any case, I don't think this will injure the Wii.

 » big difference

Wii comes with the Wiimote

PS3 does not come with this new eye toy

Wii is banking on the Wiimote idea

PS3's new eye toy is an added peripheral that they are not banking on

Almost all Wii games will include support for the Wiimote

Only a few PS3 games will be make for this new eye toy

This is incredibly OLD news...

» It wasnt supported last time, it won't be this time

They might as well just give up adding things like this late to try keep features of both competitors. This is what's making the PS3 so expensive which is whats turning everyone away.

They should just stick to making things pretty this gen like they always do and try it next gen (if they even survive this one) when they've done it properly.

 » So very old...

And i'm glad that only a few PS3 games use eyetoy. They will be fun...

The problem is that ALL Wii games use their motion crap, it will be tiresome with nunchuck and remote swinging after a while...

 » EyeToy

I believe i saw an article on the new eyetoy ages ago, that describes it having two or 3 cameras in it, a normal eyetoy one except hi-res and another 1 or 2 infa-red one in it to map distance and postitional information...i think

With the Wii, your friends get to watch you flail around like an idiot.

With the new Eyetoy (if it is anything like the old Eyetoy), both you and your friends get to watch you flail around like an idiot.

Sounds awesome!!!

 » Forcing.....

Forcing the use of movement in games, for the Wii will eventually make complex the gameplay, instead of simple. You want examples of that???? Check games like StarFox Command and Mario Hoops 3-3 on Nintendo DS. They are forcing the gameplay with the stylus in games that usually didn't required it, and the gameplay gets annoying instead of FUN. I can say it, because I have those games. They are gonna to make the same errors with the Wii, forcing motion ***** in games that doesn't require it. Sony will have options for everything, that's all......... : ) .......

Maybe sony is supporting Israël in the new war with extra cell processors that calculates how the enemy is reacting on this war, so they can think one move ahead ;)

   by Imitation (Unregistered) - 2006-08-14

It seems like i cant get away froom ignorance no matter where i go, i think this device will hurt our pockets for a while cos it is already hurting sony's pockets.
Second this is a peripheral, unlike the Wiimote which is a standard controller, it just wont sell, of course it sounds like fun doesnt mean it will go worldwide in a flash like the Wiimote.
The only way it may work is if it is forced by devs using it in alot of games and i dont think people like being forced to purchase stuff.

"it just wont sell, of course it sounds like fun doesnt mean it will go worldwide in a flash like the Wiimote"

no offence, but the eyetoy for ps2 sold incredibly well and alot of people like the eye toy, so to say it wont sell or work is a little harsh

   by lansingone - 2006-08-14
 » i don't know about you but

it sound like alot of you are saying it's not going to sell cuase nobody would want to play it, reason being that it sounds cool but it's not somthing people want to play alot, but thats just the same way the wii is. im sorry if i make anyone mad but thats what i think about current eyetoy. nextgen eyetoy. and the wii. its somthing great to have fun with when you have friends over to have fun and play around, but thare not somthing im going to sit thare playing for 2 hours alone, thats what i have good old games played with a good old controler for. and if anyone says the that the little time playing eyetoy is not worth it for what it costs, il tell you i have had more fun playing one of them for an hour with friends than playing any singleplayer game all the way through
