WipEout HD - Image 1 WipEout HD - Image 2

WipEout HD is out today, but if you are subject to epileptic attacks, you might want think about it before you buy the game. If you remember, the game was delayed because it failed epilepsy tests. In fact, it failed so badly that the game had to be re-engineered. However, it looks like the game pulled through, but the final product still had to come with a very serious health warning.

The health warning reads as follows:

Always play in a well lit environment. Take regular breaks, 15 minutes every hour. Discontinue playing if you experience dizziness, nausea, fatigue or have a headache.

Some individuals are sensitive to flashing or flickering lights or geometric shapes and patterns, may have an undetected epileptic condition man may experience epileptic seizures when watching television or playing videogames.

Consult your doctor before playing videogames if you have an epileptic condition and immediately should you experience any of the following symptoms whilst playing; altered vision, muscle twitching, other involuntary movement, loss of awareness, confusion and / or convulsions.

Try like every video game. Look at the instruction manuals and any manual like content included in games and they all tell you that same "take breaks, bright lit room, funky colors make make you do the funky dance" kinda deal. heck mgs4 even had it as part of a loading screen :P

 » Same as any other...

Those are the same exact messages that scroll on the screen when installing Metal Gear Solid 4, so I think they're pretty common.

Speaking of WipeoutHD, where the hell is it? It's 3:30pm Eastern on Thursday, when are they releasing it on the Store already??

Bad enough Criterion already lied today about the Trophy update being live for Burnout Paradise.

 » nothing new here

This is the same disclaimer that appears on most of the PS3 games I have at home. This is not news.

Move along, people. And for Pete's sake would you guys come up with something worth reading!?

I spoke too soon, I see WipeoutHD is finally up in the store. Now if Burnout Paradise can finally get the trophy update we'd be set. :)

yes, these warnings are in pretty much every game. They've been there for years...

» You guys just dont get it

This is no where near normal, normal games pass these tests. If this one failed that badly that means this is serious. Normally games have the smallest warning in fine print at the bottom corner of the screen. This one has an agreement.

not that serious.. Unless you have epilepsy problems (which I don't understand why you would even be playing video games) its not serious at all.

Playing it right now on HD and its not doing anything to me at all.

 » What's the news about?

I'm studying congnitions at the University of Montréal in Canada, and I HAD to say that almost ALL games are pretty bad for epileptic people, depending on the level of the epilepsy (sorry if I'm making tons of errors, I'm not english myself).

More or less is normal, depending on the speed of the game. This only means it's gonna be fast, that's all...

And anyway, from when just watching TV was good for epileptic people?

 » Seizures...

It's not me that seems to be having the seizure problems, it's my TV. I run at 1080i over component cables, and during the menu screens I get a lot of video tearing usually leading to getting a no-source message on my TV. I can get around that by hitting the PS button and seeing what menu selections I need to make behind the XMB. I haven't had a problem during actual game play (thank goodness). Thinking about it now (while at work were I can't test my theory out), is I'm wondering if the game is trying to send to white a white signal for either my TV, component switcher, HK receiver, or PS3 component out. I should double check my PS3 video settings to see if there is something that I can correct.

Anyone else getting this problem? This is the only game that I get it on.
