Reuters reports that Electronic Arts has decided to delay Army of Two to early next year. Army of Two was originally slated for a November 15 release for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 home video game consoles.According to the Reuters reports, EA said that more time is needed to polish the game. EA Games head Frank Gibeau was quoted in a statement saying, "Army of Two has potential to become a lasting EA franchise -- so getting the first title right is essential." "It's an important game for them if they hope to establish it as a franchise," said Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter. "It shouldn't have much of an impact, but the market always seems to assume the worst about the company." |

Electronic Arts' Army of Two (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3), the first game that comes to mind when talking about loving your buddy on the battlefield, was inspired by co-op classics like Technos' Double Dragon and Konami's Contra, according to senior producer Reid Schneider. Even online play will focus on watching your friend's back just like in the mentioned games, he said.In an interview, Schneider said the developers aimed for the "buddy-cop" film experience while making Army of Two. The fruit of their labor is unparalleled team play that leaves other tactical shooters in the dust, he added. This can be credited to inspiration taken from games that made cooperative play very desirable, like the influential beat 'em up Double Dragon and Contra which popularized the use of cheat codes because two guys with a few lives each weren't enough to succeed. Following the lead of video games that were difficult to complete alone, going through Army of Two's campaign and online modes won't be easy without a pal. Multiplayer pits partners together as they reach for objectives, fragging enemy AI along the way. Teamwork comes into play when you have to maneuver two-man vehicles, or when exploiting the aggro mechanic is the only option to survive. Aggro, as those keeping tabs on the game would know, makes the gun-totting guy more visible while the other gains a degree invisibility. Devs made sure this carries over to online modes by tweaking the aggro shaders, Schneider said. When one player has full aggro while his partner has none, the second guy will be almost fully transparent. A lot of promising features are to be included in the Army of Two's multiplayer modes. Custom weapons made during offline play can't be used online, but there will be plenty of precustomized weapons according to Schneider. Plans to offer downloadable maps on launch are being worked on, and since Army of Two is slated for a November 15 release, it won't be long 'till we find out if they make the cut. To survive in Electronic Arts' latest third-person shooter for the Xbox 360 and PS3, Army of Two, players not only have to think in terms of cooperative play - they also have to take the element known as Aggro into consideration. We get a crash course on just what Aggro is in this trailer video of the game that hearkens back to the days of beautiful, synchronized co-op.
So what is Aggro, anyway? Aggro is the game's way of measuring just how much attention the enemy is paying to you or your partner. Naturally, the less Aggro you have, the less shots you'll take, and the more you can walk around killing people like an unseen ninja. Simply put, whoever has the bigger gun between you and your partner will be the one getting pounded with enemy fire. With the use of the onscreen Aggro meter, players can use this to their advantage. The Tokyo Game Show is so close from now that it hurts. Fortunately, we were able to grab hold of this TGS 2007 video from Electronic Arts. It's a nice trailer that introduces upcoming EA title Army of Two and it's as military-macho as a game can get. Not a whole lot of details were known prior to this trailer, but now we know that special forces duo Tyson Ross and Elliott Salem are sent to thwart a terrorist conspiracy so large that it poses a threat to the world. In this cinematic, the pair is set to take on the mission of neutralizing enemy operatives, rescuing an ally and taking out defenses. As discussed before, Army of Two is a third-person shooter with a cooperative orientation that requires users to play cohesively with another player or with the AI. Some parts of missions are impossible to get through alone, so you better get the word "teamwork" lodged in your head. Army of Two is slated for the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360.
