Alma - Image 1As was reported last June, Monolith Productions sent word to the gaming community that they were looking for a new name for the upcoming sequel to their F.E.A.R. FPS for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. We've just picked up word that as of today, the developer have tabulated the votes for the winning entry: Project Origin.

As previously reported, Project Origin is to be published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Monolith Producer Troy Skinner expressed his team's happiness regarding the new name:

Our team really enjoyed letting the fans drive the naming process, and we are excited to expand upon the work we began in the original game and establish Project Origin as a premier gaming franchise in its own right.

Project Origin will take off where the F.E.A.R.: Extraction Point expansion leaves off. Players will find themselves racing against the clock in this supernatural suspense-themed FPS as they attempt to prevent Alma, a powerful psychic, from wreaking havoc on a major American City. Drop back in case we pick up more details for the sequel.

Monolith announces Name Your Fear contest - Image 1A rift between Monolith Productions and Vivendi SA is a video game developer; formerly known as Vivendi Universal">Vivendi almost cost fans a sequel to the FPS title F.E.A.R (PC, PS3, Xbox 360). Turns out, fans will be getting two sequels to the title: one from Vivendi (who still owns the F.E.A.R. title and plans to release F.E.A.R. 2) and another title from Monolith set within the F.E.A.R. universe.

Since Vivendi still owns the brand name, Monolith can't use it for their upcoming sequel. With a bit of quick thinking, Monolith has come up with a cool way to get around the whole name issue. They've announced a contest where gamers can send in their suggestions for what the new F.E.A.R. game should be called.

The contest will run until June 22, when submissions will be narrowed down to three finalists. These finalists will get an all-expense-paid trip to meet the game's dev team at Monolith and get a grand tour of the company's facilities. All three finalists will also get their names and likenesses included in the game.

Once the finalists are chosen, the ball will once again be in the fans' court. On July 23, voting will be open to the public to let the fans decide what name to go with. The voting will continue until June 27. For more details, click on the read link below.

F.E.A.R. from Vivendi - Image 1

With the final stretch of the wait at hand for Vivendi's FPS title, F.E.A.R., it definitely wouldn't hurt to have some more of them screenshots to tease you with.

And we have ten for you right here, in fact. Maybe with these screens you'll be a little more forgiving towards Vivendi for delaying F.E.A.R.'s release. See, they weren't slacking off. They were just making sure that you'll have a topnotch experience with the game. And PS3 gamers appear to be having some added goods in the form of some exclusive content for the console version's multiplayer mode. We'll keep you posted for more on that as the news comes along.

Anyhow, enough chitchat now. Expect F.E.A.R. to come your way to Europe on April 20, and April 24 for North America. This time it's for real.

FEAR - Image 1A recently released press kit reveals that there should be some extra content for the Sony PlayStation 3 version of Sierra Entertainment's FEAR.

Rob Loftus, Senior Producer for FEAR, reveals that they added a new game mode called Instant Action, which is reminiscent of an arcade style shoot out. He adds that they've also revamped and improved on the AI's evasion routines,as well as a new weapon and a bonus mission. The latter should allow players to play as a Special Force Operation Detachment soldier that investigated the original insicent which triggered FEAR.

Despite these new changes, Loftus notes that they won't be changing the plotline. He adds that this is more of an addition to the plot, and he notes the mentioned SFOD Bonus mission.

As for online, he clarifies that like the Xbox 360 version you will be able to play deathmatch at launch.

Loftus is still a bit mum about the prospect of additional downloadable content for FEAR on the PS3. He does say, however, that they will look at ways to make that possible.

Sadly, they won't support the SIXAXIS in the current iteration of FEAR, and there won't be any interaction between FEAR PS3 and the PSP. Oh, and they also add that they didn't mess with the AI of the Armacham operatives because they didn't "want to mess with a good thing." Whatever that means.

F.E.A.R. for the PlayStation 3 is coming to the U.S. on April 24 - Image 1

Straight from a press release from newly-revived gaming brand Sierra Entertainment, F.E.A.R. for the PlayStation 3 is shipping to your nearest U.S. game retail store on April 24, 2007. F.E.A.R. was supposed to be a European launch title, but never made the cut. Instead, it was delayed for an April 20 release.

Folks down in Australia may want to know that April 24 is also the set release date for the thriller F.E.A.R. to come for their consoles. And as a little review of what to expect from this movie-style thriller title, we've got Sierra's PlayStation 3 features of F.E.A.R. jotted down here:
  • Stunning visual effects for an intense "action movie" experience.
  • Unpredictable encounters with combat adaptable A.I.
  • Multiplayer support for up to 16 players.
  • Instant Action Mode – New arcade style mode filled with close quarter's battles tracking player progress via leader boards for the PlayStation Network for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system.
  • Exclusive PS3 level and weapon giving the gamer a unique experience solely for PS3 owners.
First Encounter Assault Recon isn't as colorful as it sounds, but as soon as you put your elite soldier training to the test in the crisis that's about to unfold in the graphical, eerie story of F.E.A.R., you're likely to find out that the meaning just got redefined.

After giving you bits and pieces about F.E.A.R.'s sequel, let's go back on-topic and talk about F.E.A.R. for the PS3. After dishing out gameplay vids and letting you view some of its screens, we have here for you a trailer of the game - complete with some comments from the people behind the game, senior producer Rob Loftus and global brand manager for Sierra, Ed Lin.

The trailer started with some eerie footprints and of course the always scary and enigmatic little girl waiting for you. As Ed Lin mentioned, the whole cinematic experience of the game is unbelievable. And although the trailer is short (roughly over a minute), it still gives justice to that statement. Anyhow, the PS3 game would be out on March 13 for the U.S. and March 23 for Europe. It will also be available for the Xbox 360 and the PC. So without further ado, here's the vid.

First Encounter Assault Recon - Image 1 F.E.A.R. isn't even out on the PS3 yet, but rumors have already spawned about its sequel.

An announcement by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (who owns Monolith by the way), indicates that the sequel to F.E.A.R. is on the company's line of games to come.

This comes after Warner Bros. announced that former Monolith CEO Samantha Ryan joined the entertainment giant as Senior Vice President for Development & Production. She replaced Jason Hall, who is now focusing on his own production company, HDFilms.

There haven't been any further announcements regarding the sequel but since Vivendi owns the F.E.A.R. name, we can be sure that the sequels (note the plural form) will probably carry a yet-to-be-announced name. According to CVG, the sequels would be custom-made for the different consoles.

Well, it looks like we have another thing to look forward to as the F.E.A.R. sequels come out for the 360, PS3, and the PC.

Alma *shivers* doesn't look all too friendly - Image 1

True to its name, Vivendi SA is a video game developer; formerly known as Vivendi Universal">Vivendi's F.E.A.R. still sends some chills up our spines. This title has the right mix of horror and action that makes us wary of a little girl named Alma. Much like our deep dark fear of Samara Morgan and Alessa Gillespie.

Well, we have two new gameplay videos to raise more goosebumps. These gameplay vids feature F.E.A.R.'s slow motion kills, quite reminiscent of Max Payne's double pistol moves. Quite awesome when you throw a grenade then whip out your pistols for a quick one-two.

The Shotgun Fun gameplay vid, as the name suggests is pure blasting fun. Watch as bodies fly and glass shatter from the shotgun pellets and well, you get what we mean. F.E.A.R. - the PS3 version - will hit the shelves on March 13. You watch the videos by clicking the convenient links below. and let us know what you think.
