*UPDATE* Reports are now trickling in as to what the said Firmware update brought in for the PS3 community. Check some of them out after the jump.

Fallout from GamesCom's big PS3 announcements continued to rain down on the PS3 blog this week. The PS3 Slim was still high in the jump counts, thanks to Sony putting its whole weight behind getting the word out to the masses with rebranding, ad campaigns, the works. It seems to be working too, as the Slim has reportedly sold out in some retailers even before the console's official launch. Yep, I bet Sony guys are flying pretty damn high right now. Wanna know the real reason why Cross-Game chat won't be coming in FW 3.0? Yeah, it's been in the works for a while now, and people are actually expecting it to arrive with this update. Then again, that's not gonna happen, and there are some wild (and disappointing) conspiratorial theories going around as to why this is the case.

Did you catch those high-performance arcade sticks in Evo 2009 back in July? If they weren't custom, they were from Mad Catz Interactive, manufacturers of controllers and gaming accessories fit for pros. They've now announced their latest gaming goods, and what they're rolling out is a line of controllers for Modern Warfare 2 and each of its versions: Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

We've got workers, warriors, priests, mages, and rangers. But if Titan Studios is gonna give us what they put up on their blog, we can count pirates and ninjas on that list. The PlayStation Network heavyweight, Fat Princess, just might get a little heavier with two additional characters mixing up the gameplay dynamics.

More details regarding PS3 Firmware 3.0 have surfaced courtesy of Sony's PSN operations director, Eric Lempel. No date yet, but here's a rundown of what you'll be getting when you update to this particular firmware version.

Sony has announced a lot of new stuff for PlayStation Network during the first part of their GamesCom conference in Cologne. There's a new video download service, more Home spaces, and yes, Firmware 3.0.

Sony has moved to clarify reports that a secret feature included in firmware 2.80 opened up more of the PS3's memory to developers, most likely stemming from a reduction in the console's OS footprint. Details after the jump.
