Though not an entirely new concept, applying smell-technology to video games is damned cool - at least of course, until they start applying the same smelly tech to Resident Evil or some such. But anyway, yes, smell-tech is slowly wafting its way to video games, and a team from the University of Birmingham is doing just that!

We all know that Valve's Half-Life 2: Episode 2 kicked some serious booty last year, and it's still among today's favorites because of its superior gameplay. The only downside in this scenario is that fans are asking for more, and they've started looking at E3 2008 as the possible birthplace of the next episode. Valve says "not yet", but they've got another thing for itchy trigger fingers. More after the jump.

Don't look now, but EA has stealthily dropped a 128MB patch for the European version of The Orange Box. The game's fans who are enjoying it on the Sony PlayStation 3 have been itching for fixes that will curb issues marring a very good release. When Valve put up a page dedicated to hearing out complaints from The Orange Box fans, they did so to find out what improvements the three games within needed. Electronic Arts boss John Riccitiello announced that the highly successful video game compilation The Orange Box will soon be split into its component parts and will each be sold as separate titles. Some of the more memorable games include Half-Life: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2, with each title garnering its own set of accolades during the past year.

Despite not actually handling development duties for the PlayStation 3 version of The Orange Box, Valve has started a new FAQ and forum thread aimed at helping PS3 gamers overcome the issues and problems that are reportedly plaguing the game. More at the full article.

 A fan of Valve Software's The Orange Box expressed his disappointment about what he believes as a sub-par PS3 version of the game, posting it in a well-written open letter addressed to Valve Software. A Valve employee replied to the letter, saying that he hopes that they will fix the issues in the future.
