Rockstar Games - Image 1We were able to spot a blog post claiming to have new details about Rockstar Games and Team Bondi's upcoming game L.A. Noire for the Sony PlayStation 3. Some nice information was dished out, but one that caught our eyes was an explanation of sorts on why the game isn't heading to the Microsoft Xbox 360.

Here are the details from the post. You decide what to make of it:
  • Not so exclusive...but LA Noire definitely ain't coming to Xbox 360, the size of the game is an obstacle to this.
  • The game will be a free-roaming title with a historically-accurate recreation of Los Angeles in 1947.
  • Team Bondi has even hired a costume designer to research the clothing of the era so the game's attire can be accurate.
  • Aside from main story, side missions will be based on actual cases pulled straight of the newspapers of 1947.
  • A US Marine plays a big role in the story.
Pretty intriguing stuff, eh? We can't confirm or refute this information just yet, but rest assured that we'll give you an update as soon as one is available from more official sources.

Sony's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable - Image 1

In the same analyst conference call that revealed plans for a Bioshock sequel, Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick announced that the releases for two of the company's PlayStation titles have been pushed back to fiscal year 2009.

The first delayed title is L.A. Noire for the Sony PlayStation 3. This Team Bondi project will reportedly be set in late-1940s Los Angeles. The decidedly film noir-style game will have players trying to solve a chain of murders.

Rockstar Leeds' PlayStation Portable title Beaterator, a music game made in collaboration with hip hop producer Timbaland, has also been delayed. Here's what Zelnick had to say about the delays:

Right now we're just pushing out the release date, and we'll be more specific as we have more information. We are continuing to develop the titles, and I think our decision was driven in part by the fact that we have such a strong release schedule for '08 and a pretty robust one.

Take-Two - Image 1GamesIndustry.biz reports that a spokesperson for Take-Two Interactive confirmed that "the Grand Theft Auto IV episodic content is exclusive to Xbox 360," and hinted on the host platform of the upcoming title LA Noire.

Rumors of episodic content exclusivity circulated right after the publisher's financial report after the second fiscal quarter of 2007. According to the Take-Two spokesperson, the episodic content package will be available to users in fiscal 2008. That means march of next year and beyond to the uninitiated.

The spokesperson also said that LA Noire is in the works and is being designed for "next-generation systems." That makes it almost safe to assume that the game will be in the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 as the case is with GTA IV.

LA Noire is an open-ended murder-solving game set in a 1940's backdrop with jazz and drug themes swirling to create the detective movie feel of the era. Even the animation and coloring style of the visuals have been contoured to fit the game and create the most realistic ambiance possible.

Okay so last September (this is the same way how the September article starts, funny how news updates work don't you think?) We gave you a bit more details regarding Rockstar Games' L.A. Noire.

We told you stuff like how it's going to be "open ended," how Mr. Brendan McNamara of The Getaway fame will be directing this, and how Team Bondi (the guys who are making the thing) are looking for employees. But enough game info, here's the official "debut" trailer of the 1940's big crime in the big city game.

The vid doesn't really give us a preview of gameplay as the trailer is mostly pre-rendered CG stuff. At the least, it gives us a good glimpse of what we should be expecting.

Oh yeah, is it just me, or does the cityscape in the trailer look a bit like Portland from GTA?

Way back in July, we featured an article about Team Bondi developing the next-gen crime thriller game, L.A. Noire. Not much is yet known about the game, aside from its PS3 exclusivity and that the setting will be L.A. circa 1940s. Now, we've just gotten news that the ever-controversial Rockstar Games of the Grand Theft Auto fame (or infamy, depending where you stand), will publish L.A. Noire.

lanoireAustralia-based Team Bondi is currently developing L.A. Noire, and even though Bondi is a relatively new company, having been founded just three years ago, the studio seems to have experience when it comes to big crimes in big cities. Why, you ask?

Well, Team Bondi's founder is Brendan McNamara, the one who directed the PS2 game The Getaway back when he was still with SCE (Sony Computer Entertainment) Europe's Team Soho.

McNamara will once again sit on the director's chair as he is the director of development for L.A. Noire. Helping him with the game is Rockstar co-founder and the game's executive producer, Sam Houser.

According to the company website, Team Bondi is currently looking for people to fill the following positions: 3D rendering, car modeler, senior gameplay programmer, 3D animators, and many more. If you're looking for a career in the game industry, check out the company's website and maybe you'll get a chance to add to the 80 people that are currently working for the company.

Anyway, going back to L.A. Noire, the game was originally revealed last year as a PS3-exclusive thriller game but at this point, it looks like that exclusivity might soon be put into question, what with all the buzz on Nintendo's Wii. Sam Houser describes L.A. Noire as being "open-ended", and looks like speculations about the game's release date will remain that way too as there have been no further announcements and details about the game. We will inform you as soon as we get more details.
