While Sony's DualShock 3 controller isn't expected to hit the rest of the world until next spring, it looks like the game developers are already making their preparations. We've just received word that Evolution Studios will be releasing the 3.0 client update for their MotorStorm game for the PlayStation 3 tomorrow, October 25. Among the updates that were noted in the changelog was support for the DualShock 3. Here's the full changelog:
  • MotorStorm 3.0 update carries DualShock 3 support - Image 1Added vibration support for DUALSHOCK 3 controller with adjustable sensitivity settings.
  • Grid order has been randomised for first race in any online lobby.
  • Finishing positions in your last race now determine your starting grid position in the next race within the same online lobby.
  • On-screen indicator has been added to show whether voice comms are issuing from TV or headset – As before, please press and hold L1 (R1 if using control scheme ‘B’) to toggle headset output through TV or Headset.
  • Sensitivity Settings for SIXAXIS™ Motion Sensor control have been added.
  • ‘Gloating Index’ has been added to the Stats card – The Gloating index gives guidance as to a racer’s online prowess. It takes into account the number of people you’ve beaten in each race and the number of people that have beaten you. Use the gloating index to spot the players to beat in each race! Try and rank your Gloating Index up to the perfect ‘10’!
  • Several causes for an occasional snagging issue which would destroy vehicles on suspension impact have been addressed.
  • Further fixes to prevent the occasional statistics reset issue have been applied.
  • Fixed an occasional issue with inaccuracies in Eliminator finishing results.
  • Fixed an issue where winners leaving Eliminator before race completed could cause issues for other players in lobby.
With this update, MotorStorm will join Insomniac Games' Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction and Incognito Entertainment's Warhawk as among the first PlayStation 3 games to carry support for Sony's DualShock 3. We'll let you know when the other titles start getting their updates as well.

Just as the name implies, this particular bundle will include MotorStorm by Evolution Studios in this PlayStation 3 80GB bundle of joy, just in time for the US$ 499 price cut of the PS3 80GB.

So how much does the bundle cost? Only US$  499.82. That means you're getting the game for a mere pittance of 82 cents. What more can you ask for? Before this post sounds more and more like a plug, you have to admit that paying for only 82 cents, even in bundles, is a giveaway.

This MotorStorm bundle is available in Walmart. Do take note that this is a limited edition bundle, so don't tarry too long if you're planning to nab this offer. For UK residents who are interested in a PS3 bundle that includes MotorStorm, you guys can check out HMV's starter pack.

Details on Sony's purchase of Evolution and MotorStorm 2 slated - Image 1Sony Worldwide Studios VP Michael Denny spoke to GamesIndustry regarding their purchase of Evolution Studios. In addition to this, he also spoke about a sequel to MotorStorm which the company plans on releasing some time next year.

In the interview, Denny said that both founders of the gaming company Martin Kenwright and Ian Hetherington have decided to leave the business. However, Mick Hocking will still continue as the managing director of the new subsidiary. These moves were done to further strengthen their new holding:

We want to protect and enhance our investment in Evolution Studios and Bigbig, and have no plans to reduce the overall number of staff in either studio. We believe that becoming part of the worldwide studios group within Sony will offer improved career opportunities for talented people.

Regarding the sequel to the hit PS3 title, Denny said "MotorStorm as a brand and as a network-enabled game will go from strength to strength. We're looking to follow up with a new Blu-ray disc release next year for MotorStorm".

All in all, it looks like Sony has very big things planned for its latest and hottest acquisition to date. If you want to read the full interview, click on the Read Link below.

Sony Computer Entertainment gets Evolution and Bigbig Studios - Image 1Sony Computer Entertainment has given word that they have purchased Evolution Studios Ltd. and its subsidiary Bigbig Studios. This move adds both MotorStorm and Pursuit Force into Sony's stable, further strengthening the company's IPs. The acquisitions of Sony have very good track records, with Evolution Studios shipping a game yearly over a span of six years.

SCE World Wide Studios President Phil Harrison commented on the company's newest investment and how it fits into their plans, pointing out that the company's current strategy focuses on creating "the best games by working with the best talent and Evolution and Bigbig are world class additions to the team."

No word was given on how much Sony paid for both companies, or how long before they expect to recuperate their initial cash outlay. We'll just have to wait and see if their purchase was worth the money in the long run.

Mainichi Issho - Image 1While most European PS3 gamers are complaining about lack of good PSN content, Japanese counterparts are receiving new PSN downloadables, and some of them are actually good.

Japanese PlayStation 3 owners are now able to access the following downloadable content: the crazy but fun Go! Puzzle games, a cutesy Piyotama Summer Beach skin, MotorStorm Booster and New Machine packs, and an additional quest pack for the gothic adventure game FolksSoul (Folklore to us foreigners).

As for other content, fans of the strange cat in Mainichi Issho will also have a new item available to them, as well as a new Soul Calibur 4 video (the more to appreciate the um enhancements!).

Certainly a fun-filled pack in store for the Japanese PSN. Stay tuned for more updates!

Haven't picked up the new MotorStorm content that Evolution Studios released earlier? In case you're wondering what the new downloads will carry to your game, we've picked up a video that'll help. The first segment of the vid will cover the recently released Coyote Revenge track, which some of you may have already tried out.

Also under discussion here are the upcoming vehicle packs. Given that packs one and two aren't expect to land until September 13 and 27 respectively, consider this a teaser of what you can expect for each download. Enjoy the video, and stick around for any more MotorStorm news.
