HRParis-based developer Quantic Dream, responsible for such titles as Omikron: The Nomad Soul and Indigo Prophecy, teases us with an interactive trailer on their upcoming next-gen game, Heavy Rain: The Casting.

The demo shows a young actress auditioning for a role in the game. Quantic Dream casted young actress Aurelie Brancilhon and made her the first woman crying in real time 3D.

“At Quantic Dream, we believe that emotion will be a key component of Next Gen games and we are heavily investing in technologies to create Virtual Actors since several years. By expanding the range of emotions video games have to offer, they will be able to reach a far wider audience. This demo is just the beginning of what can be achieved, but I hope it already shows the fascinating new possibilities this media will offer in the coming years” says David Cage, the founder of Quantic Dream and director of Heavy Rain.

Heavy Rain: The Casting involved many next-gen features, including full body and facial motion capture (eyes, pupils, fingers and tongue animation), real time tears, real time wrinkles on the face, advanced skin shades, and advanced rendering features (depth of field, spherical harmonics, and high dynamic range).

Heavy Rain is a new video game franchise, designed for PS3 and PC systems. It is based on emotional immersion and innovative game play mechanics.

Thanks to Hummer for the heads up.

The mouth animation is terrible...that just threw the whole trailer off for me. It makes her look mentally...disabled.
Cool I guess, but I wasn't that impressed.

first its true the lip sync could have been better but other than that if i watched that for 5 min more i would have frogot it was animated, and that brings my question! was that real time? or pre rendered to what could be possible in the future? maybe on the next next gen consoles?

 » Fanboys??

How so do you mean?

And damn these people are awesome. I loved Indigo Prophecy, can't wait to see how this game will be like.

It is real time lansingone (they can change the lighting and stuff), I watched the HD version on GameTrailers, I totally got into her acts, its just awesome, this is one of the best thing I saw in this years E3.

Yes, it's real time. Sad though. Oblivion's NPCs have more detail in them than this but the background modeling is alright.

 » haha

it sounded like she was mentally retarded or something and it kind of annoyed me, although it was very impressive with the facial expressions and everything

 » Impressive yet seriously flawed

At some points the actor looks like a corpse as far as eye movement.

Kind of a creepy monologue... But it's pretty sweet.

I agree with the mouth thing, though... It kept my brain saying, "It's not real! Look!"

I can't wait for games to look as good as FFVII: Advent Children, though... My eyes would orgasm

» You're complaining a tech demo is crap???

Um - You all do realise that it's a TECH demo, don't you? As in pre-alpha... Jeesh! You people are never satisfied. It's not even properly implemented yet and already you are all *****ing!
