The highly-anticipated online tactical strategy/shooter Enemy Territory: Quake Wars will allow players to duke it out with each other, but only if everyone's in the same platform. That means PC and console users won't be able to frag one another, and we won't see PS3 and Xbox 360 grudge matches any time soon. |

Probably because Microsoft is involved or something. Microsoft has been touting how they will let xbox and pc gamers play against each other in games and I can see how Playstation is not in their best interest. I mean come on, we all know that cross platform play is something people want and that alone is a big draw. id could raise the bar and go all out to create a new standard for next gen.
You really do sound desperate, listen if your chosen console continues to sell poorly at least you can watch movies on it, so its not so bad.....
Ain't I, hardy harr harr!
*Stares at Final Fantasy XI online*
Final fantasy has its own server totally seperate from XBOX live. Kinda dumb because you have to pay for it seperately.
That's funny CHUCKINGROCKSATSPACESHIPS has people saying he's a moron now. NO IT WAS NOT ME.
Mister Common Sense IS A MORON!
Not to mention every console user getting their asses OWNED by people using a mouse and keyboard. lol
They could make it for keyboard control. l know they could for the PS3 since it's keyboard + mouse compatible.
I have a 360 with a cheapo wireless keyboard that connect straight from the USB port, I know there are $15 interfaces for 360 that let you also use a mouse, keyboards and any PS2 controllers or stearing wheels .
why couldn't Insomniac come up with a plot like that ;)
PS3 and 360 cross platform games....the online networks are just too different....the only reason PC and 360 can go together is because MS is trying to merge the online PC play into the live network.
Also, I think the point of KB+M users owning controller users is unfounded....i've played both ALOT and I really think it would be even, both having their advantages (accuracy for mouse and keyboard and mobility and "agility" for controllers, especially when a jump and melee attacks are involved)
People are always too quick to defend platforms and developers without questioning them. firstly every console excpt wii has a keyboard and mouse option the developer can enable.
Second as i said in my post below difference in platform does not mean they can not be integrated it would be like saying you cant make a game multiplatform. its possible even if the game was not made to include this feature. there are common proticalls the game company writes in there games no mater what platform there on. you really think they are going to rewrite the entire online data structure just for ps3 or 360 .....no that would be like redoing all the textures, audio, or moddels. Its not something any multi-platform game will have done to it...sure maybe higher quality but not all new if you get my point.
This is pathetic every time I see excuses for no crossplatform multi-play online I call BS. Rightfully so being the project manager for homebrew server for phantasy star. We where the first to have one game allow gamecube(eppisode 1&2,3), dreamcast (pso v1,v1), pc(pso pcv2, Blue burst). ALL those games in one spot at the same time. The fact is it can be done, and it is quite easy the main programmer did the bulk of the work we are talking one guy here.
So why dont they do it? My guess is they are saving this feature to capitalize on it laiter on. Like live anywhere for instance. This feature is much easyer to implement than people think and it should be as standered as 2 or 4 player co-op, system link, etc.
You obviously didn't deal with xbox live.
You may or may not know that it is a closed network, with very proprietary matchmaking and data transfer schemes. MS also doesn't deal in unknowns, and has alot of set standards in place. Therefore, PS3 will never be allowed into the XBL network, as too much is in the air with their platform....not to mention MS just will not allow people to access their matchmaking and network for free....
Different story for PC + 360, as the PC is getting it's own version of XBL....
Never know though, maybe sony will adopt XBL as their on-line platform....hehe, right...
