The Last Remnant - Image 1 I hope nobody here's planning on holding their breath until The Last Remnant (PS3, Xbox 360) finally hits the Sony PlayStation 3, because if this report's any indication, we may not be seeing that game for a long time. If at all.

GunCon 3Okay, in our previous report on Namco's GunCon 3 accessory for the PS3, several of you folks wondered in the comments if the product will come in black or orange. Well, here's something that may disappoint some of you. Wired's Chris Kohler reports that US and EU will get the orange gun shown in the images we gave you. Japan gets the black gun.

Also, some of you were wondering if it'll work with LCDs, well, here's some positive news for you folks: the gun works by placing markers on the left and right side of your TV. A camera in the GunCon 3 should be able to detect the position of the markers use them to figure out what you're targeting. So, just like the Wiimote, any type of screen should work.

It was also revealed that there are six buttons on the device and two analog sticks, one of which is placed in the sub-grip that you can hold with your left hand. The second stick is in the barrel of the gun. It wasn't made clear though as to how these analog sticks will work with Time Crisis 4 on the PlayStation 3. We'll update you as soon as we have more info.

Wikipedia and it's problems - Image 1

Chris Kohler of Wired informs all of us that the founder of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales, has announced the debut of gaming.wikia, an open-source gaming magazine.

What's amusing about this is that like all other wiki's, you can go in and finally edit out the annoying parts of other people's articles. Admittedly, this blogger thinks that the mentioned scenario will probably happen to a lot of his posts. Other self-explanatory wikia's include Tunes.wikia, Cars.wikia, and Health.wikia.

Will this end up as the ultimate gaming resource for the gaming community? Or will this end up as a NeoGAF induced with massive amounts of alcohol?

Penny-Arcade's Skeletor strip seems oddly prophetic. Anyhow, if you want to check out the new resource, feel free to head there via our "read" link below.

In principle, the introduction of digital distribution in the game industry is a good thing for everyone: It can save companies a lot of money, minimize risks and on the part of the consumers, it may eventually lower game prices.

The entire idea is quite iTunes-ish. To have the ability to grab games that you want in the comfort of your home would be one hassle less for a lot of gamers. For companies, it saves them the entire manufacturing expense of releasing CDs and DVDs as a medium for game distribution. It saves them the money they pay to have their games on store shelves by replacing the brick-and-mortar dealer with a virtual one. When you combine the two elements, it seems to make a lot of sense.

Apparently, the triumvirate of the console business all agree that this is a viable model to extend their spheres of influence in the gaming community. Through their own respective networks, Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo have allowed the distribution of firmware, updates and old classic games for everyone to enjoy.

The vision, however, that digital distribution will replace traditional retailers may still be a few years away. Hardware limitations is not as talked about as corporate policies, but in truth, it's the most basic element needed to make digital distribution happen in this generation. The fact that next-gen games come in large files will mean that reliable internet connections which can provide fast downloads will have to be accessed by end users. Storage space is also a consideration as the Wii and X360 don't have built-in hard drives.

According to Chris Kohler the PS3 is in the best position to capitalize on its high-end advantage "since every PS3 comes with an internal hard disk. Wii only features 512 MB of built-in flash memory for game storage. And although Xbox 360 supports a 20-GB hard drive, it's an optional accessory, meaning that Microsoft can't count on gamers having one."

Add to that the fact not everyone has reliable and speedy internet access to download games that come in huge files, and you have another hindrance in getting the games across. Follow the read URL to get the details on why we can't get games like songs just yet.

Chris Kohler fights for justice! - Image 1

Kobun Heat doesn't sound like a name that inspires much fear. Then again, so does the name Shirley, but that's beside the point. Wired's Chris Kohler won fifth place in Sega's Virtua Fighter 5 tourney last year, and as a prize, he gets himself immortalized in Virtua Fighter history as Kobun Heat, the character he played in the game.

What do we have today then? Five new screens, featuring Kohler's character in its full, button-mashing glory. As he jokingly mentioned in the comments, Kobun is Mexilack, a Mexican-Black luchador of death and destruction. We might be envious of his entry into gaming history, but we have to wonder... Does Kobun Heat fight as well as Kohler button-mashes, or are they giving him advanced AI?

Expect a battle with Mr. Heat on your PS3 or Xbox 360 when the game comes out. For now, enjoy the screenies.
