Sad Sackboy - Image 1The complaints continue to rumble on the modding of the user-created levels on Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet. A lot of explanation seems to be in order, and that's what the LittleBigWorkshop Senior Community Manager did exactly. According to him, the modding isn't as far-reaching as you guys would think. Find out more after the jump.

LittleBigPlanet levels removed over copyright fears - Image 1If you found your LittleBigPlanet level abruptly deleted without warning (or to be more accurate about it, moderated), it was probably marked either unsuitable or a breach of copyright. Media Molecule is currently working to improve the moderating process, but for now, better make sure your creative genius is free of copyright.

Resistance: Fall of Man - Image 1 Heads up, Resistance: Fall of Man players - a new banning policy has just been implemented by Insomniac and Sony, as Chris of Videogame-news.com reports.

First off, offensive user names and clan tags - and obviously, a combination of both - would get you on the bad side of the law (not bad side of the law GTA-style, more like violating EULA bad side of the law style). Even the clever few who combine the first three letters of their clan tag with their usernames to spell out something naughty isn't exempt from this item, either.

Those caught and reported to be naming themselves after things that break the PG barrier would have themselves permanently banned and their Playstation Network accounts suspended.

Next up is cheating and exploiting, two things that ruin the fun of the game for everyone. If you've spotted a player using lag devices or exploits or any type of trickery to get an unfair advantage over the game, you can have them ejected from the player area by simply sending a private message to the MyResistance.Net "cheating" account.

The username to PM is "cheating", without the quotation marks.

We at QJ, along with the folks over at Insomniac and Sony, would like to remind gamers that cheating and the use of in-game exploits is strictly prohibited in any game type, and that includes custom and private games.

But what about if you're knee-deep into a game, and can't spare a moment to PM someone? Worry not, for Insomniac and Sony have deployed "In-game moderators" with the ability to check up on any game, whether it be ranked, custom or provide, and catch anyone sharing or abusing exploits without being seen. Kind of like Police Ninjas, but totally invisible.

Caught red-handed? Serves you right, but Insomniac and Sony are no ogres. A first-time ban would have you out of the game for only 24 hours. Don't push your luck too much, though, as the duration of the bans will grow longer and longer with every succeeding offense. Dodging your ban would have the same consequences, so don't even think about it.

So we're reminding everyone to keep things clean.

Okaaaaay...

Someone must have rolled over in his grave when MacUser.com's Aaron Freedman wrote the following words: "I never thought I’d say this, but it seems that Microsoft has a product that works better with the Mac than the Sony equivalent." He was talking about his observation that the Xbox 360 system meshes with Apple systems, but that the Sony PS3 didn't.

However, just looking back at our coverage of both consoles, and the comments to Aaron's article, sounds like he needs to make a revision of observation.

There's the observation that "the PS3 can't play music directly off the iPod." Uh, Victor B., can you help me out here? "... the 20 GB video iPod was recognized by the PS3, but you'll need to use the above-mentioned Display All feature to view everything on your iPod." (The "Display All" feature is simply pressing Triangle to browse through - and play - the content of connected media storage devices like the iPod).

And besides, as a MacUser commenter pointed out, both the PS3 and Xbox 360 won't play iTunes-signed music content. But then again, that's Apple's DRM, not MS or Sony.

Now there are things that the Xbox can do with Apple that the PS3 can't, but that's because of the one-year lead time of the Microsoft console, which gives hackers time to play with both devices. The 360 controller could be used with a Mac through a hacked driver and the USB cable, which we won't visit for all the potential EULA repercussions. Even Aaron admits that the SIXAXIS communicates through Bluetooth, which can, in due time, talk to a Mac as well (again, with all potential EULA repercussions). And the SIXAXIS has a USB connection too, by the way.

That's Aaron's admission: in due time, hackers will probably develop more drivers and code that will enable the PS3 to communicate with the Mac and iPod and God-knows-what-else, creating a very weird menage-a-troi lovefest electronica that neither MS, nor Sony, nor Apple would have envisioned (toss in the Wii and now we have a party!). Enough said.
