Dubious Videogame Awards - Image 1There are video game awards, and then there are video game awards. This particular video game awards feature is probably of the latter, but with a lot of good-natured irreverence thrown into the mix. While it would have been easier for us to just make an article about our favorite games (and we did), we felt that the gaming year of 2007 had a lot to offer, and thus we're giving credit (and blame) where it's due.

Check out the winners in the full article.

Lair - Image 1Ever wondered what caused the delay of Factor 5's Lair in Europe? Wonder no more, as it seems that the dragon-riding game blessed with the SIXAXIS' motion controls seems to have been snagged with a manufacturing issue. Yes, it's the game discs themselves that warranted a slight delay of the game's release, having no age rating printed on them. And apparently, in Europe, that's a big legal no-no.

Check the full article for the entire details about the delay.

Media Create's sales report for the week ending October 14 - Image 1Media Create's latest figures for the week ending October 14 sees the Nintendo DS handheld holding the top post, despite sales dropping down to 78,746 as compared to 87,535 last week. The PSP retains second place at 59,584.

The Wii follows in at third with 20,575 sales - very similar to its sales from last week. Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 experienced noticeably higher numbers, with the PS3 picking up 12,365 sales and the 360 6,161 sales.

This week's software sales figures has DS Nishimura Kyotarou Suspense Detective Series: Deadly Intent by Tecmo as the top seller. Gundam Battle Chronicles by Namco-Bandai for the PSP still holds as the second-highest selling handheld game for this group, although now only at 27,721 sales (it was 86,208 the week before).

On a more surprising note, Lair by Factor 5 for the PS3 ousted Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 by Namco Bandai for the Wii as the charts' only game entry for next-gen consoles.

Warhawk - Image 1

Suffice it to say that Julian Eggebrecht is an interesting sort of fellow. As if it wasn't enough that the folks at Factor 5 and Sony were cheeky enough to release a guide to reviewing Lair, it seems Eggebrecht is also on the offensive, berating the motion control that can be found in another game on the PlayStation 3 roster: Warhawk.

Games Radar reports that during a talk with Julian Eggebrecht about the motion-sensing controls in other games, he was quick to denounce the way other games had pulled the system off. "Warhawk's controls are... eurgh!," he explained. He continued with a remark about how motion sensing should be used, "I see motion-sensing as a complimentary, additional new step in terms of controls and where it fits you should use it and where it doesn't fit, don't force it. Please don't force it."

Perhaps that is the case, but it should be noted that while Warhawk makes motion-sensing an optional addition to the gameplay experience, Lair's motion-sensing controls are a completely compulsory experience.

Factor 5 considering another Rogue Squadron game - Image 1Factor 5's boss Julian Eggebrecht has been talking about the possibility of another Star Wars: Rogue Squadron game. He said that if they were to do it, then it would be based on the Classic Star Wars universe and not the new trilogy.

This is pretty exciting considering Eggebrecht said that it won't be just an HD port. He noted that the game would have to innovate and focus more on gameplay considering the Star Wars IP was well-represented in the last generation of consoles.

Speaking of innovations, he also said that motion control, while good for controlling a dragon (ala Lair) might not be a good idea with Rogue Squadron: "If I was to do a game with an X-Wing, I don't know if I'd necessarily use motion control. It might be [analog] stick, because that is how you'd be controlling the craft - it might be more appropriate."

Unfortunately, the game isn't very high on the company's list of priorities at this point, as they're still tied up with other projects. Just as well, since it'll give them time to think of a a new hook, or reason to make players want to jump into the cockpit again.
