PlayStation 3 backups running, says Alek, Mathieulh - Image 1This we credit to QJ.NET Forums moderator FreePlay for pointing out while I drowned in DirectX dreams. It appears that Alek and Mathieulh, reputable personalities of the PSP homebrew scene, have figured out how backup games can be run on the PlayStation 3. And since the new development restarted the whispers of PS3 ISO loaders and what-have-yous five hours ago, moderator FreePlay managed to figure out how it could be accomplished.

Sony PlayStation 3 - Image 1If you've been keeping up with the latest homebrew news on the Sony PlayStation 3, then you should have caught wind of the breakthroughs that a certain Team ICE has been making. PAX 2007 - Image 1It's never too early to reserve a place in the next Penny Arcade Expo (PAX). It was announced today that the event will be accepting registrations as early as January 2008. The last PAX had 37,000 gamers roaming its floor. Tickets were sold out so early registration may be a good idea.

PAX 2008 will be held on August 29 to 31 and attendance is expected to double again. "Again" because attendance has been doubling ever since the first PAX. The attendance grew so large that the last event was held in the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle just to fit everyone in.

Next year's PAX will mark the expo's fifth year and will continue the tradition of game exhibitions, conference programs (about games of course), concerts, tournaments, freeplay gaming and general fun times for everyone and all in the gaming community.

1,2, E3Ever feel like you've never been cool enough to enter a club, or that you're too sober to get into Alcoholics Anonymous? We can tell you right now that the emotional blow is like being hit by lead pipe in the back: excrutiatingly painful but it straightens you out some.

The E3 Media and Business Summit, once proudly seen by fans everywhere as The E3 Gamer's Gankfest and Freeplay Galore, seems to be firmly in the hands of game makers at large. Doug Lowenstein, President of the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), told folks at GameSpot that the ESA will be more hands-off in the invitation process for next year's event. Instead, the list of people who will get an invitation will be based upon recommendations made by ESA members rather than by the the ESA itself.

What does this mean? In business terms, Lowenstein is quoted by GameSpot as saying, "[T]he point is for attendees to be the people participants want to see in one-on-one meetings...[but] that is not for me to say or influence." In practical terms, it means that because the members of the ESA is comprised of big-name game and console makers from Activision to Ubisoft (is there a company starting with a "Z" somewhere?), the people who will be visiting the event will either be big names in media, important members of the gaming press, or possibly PR people for the different companies.

Darn.

Guess we'll just have to visit the other E3 then.
