MMOs are steadily breaking out of their PC confines and into this console generation thanks to the massive support for online play. Speaking at the "MMOs to consoles" panel at the GDC in Austin, Turbine VP of product development Craig Alexander makes a comparison between the two powerhouses of the seventh generation. His thoughts - it's easier to develop MMOs for the Xbox 360 than the PS3.

They're being sued right now, but at least Turbine is still focusing on what they're supposed to do: make games. Over at the Austin GDC, Craig Alexander, the company's VP of project development, confirmed that they currently have a console MMO in the works.

John Smedley, Sony Online Entertainment President, delivered a spark of good hope for those awaiting the arrival of their free-to-play MMO, Free Realms, on the PS3. Speaking at the Q&A session earlier today at the GDC in Austin, Smedley pointed to "next year."

A lot of people think that the year 2012 is significant. Some think the world's going to end by then. People in the games industry, on the other hand, think that it will be a beginning instead of an end: the beginning of the next console cycle. Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli is one of those who believe that 2012 is when the next generation of game consoles will start showing up. *UPDATE* Two demo videos have surfaced from GamesCom 2009.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) will be holding a massive press conference for GamesCom, reports VG247. It is scheduled to run for three full hours -- there's got to be something big somewhere in all that 180 minutes, right?

With Square Enix choosing not to talk too much about the promised PS3 version of The Last Remnant, it's already become a bit of a longshot, and now Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada has cast further doubts that it will ever see the light of day.

Sweet! 6,000 zombies on screen and now multiplayer too? Yummy. Yes, after some confusion at GDC, turns out Dead Rising 2 will be getting multiplayer after all. This was confirmed by series creator Keiji Inafune last week at Captivate '09, but the now question is: what type of multiplayer will it be? Left 4 Dead Rising 2, ey?

Finally, your own IMAX at home! Stereoscopic 3D tech is now confirmed to head for the PS3 and Mac platforms, care of Next3D. They're going to release their 3D movie player software for free, right about the same time they launch their 3D movie service. Some of you have seen it in action as a preview back in CES and GDC, but now it's set in stone. Just as long as your TV is 3D-ready and you got those Shutter glasses, you guys will be able to watch 1080p HD 3D movies on your PS3s and Macs, and eventually, the Xbox 360 too.
