Midway Games' Stranglehold - Image 1

The results are in for GameFly's most requested games for the week ending September 7. Last week's "All platforms" chart sees Midway Games' Stranglehold overtaking 2K Games' Bioshock, which has sunk to fourth place. Second in the list is Electronic Art's (EA) Medal of Honor: Airborne, with Bungie Studio's Halo 3 sitting comfortably at third. Meanwhile, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare caps the list at number five.

As some readers may have noticed, last week's most wanted has effectively been dominated by 360 titles. You may also notice below that the 360-specific chart is exactly the same as the "All platforms" chart.

For the other top picks in their specific platform chart, we have Nintendo's Metroid Prime 3: Corruption going strong as the most wanted for the Wii console, with Ninja Theory's Heavenly Sword making its cut as the PlayStation 3's top pick. For the portables, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass holds first place for the DS; Capcom's Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is currently the PSP's most wanted game.

Gamefly charts still eye top-notching BioShock, Aug. 27 - Image 1

In the video game sales and rental scene in North America, GameFly has reported that 2K Australia and 2K Boston's BioShock is sill terrorizing at the top of the most requested games list, despite issues with widescreens and field of view. This would mark the horror first-person shooter's fourth week on top, for the week ending August 27, 2007.

The game was trailed by next-generation multi-platformer John Woo's Stranglehold by Midway Games, dodging contenders at second spot. Blue Dragon by Mistwalker has grabbed a solid third, although Nintendo's Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has taken a one spot dip to number five.

Battle for the Pacific - Image 1Last year, the tandem of The History Channel and Activision created an FPS called The History Channel Civil War: A Nation Divided which set users up on a role to defend the Union against the Confederate uprising. The game received a mixed bag of reviews, but now, the franchise is back for more, according to Gamefly.

With listings and finalized packshots, it's all but confirmed that a new installment called The History Channel: Battle for the Pacific is coming to the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360, and Sony PlayStation 3 on November 22nd of this year.

It's unconfirmed whether Cauldron will retain its role as series developer but there hasn't been any news to indicate any changes. The game is rated T for "teen" as an indication to the kind of content we're getting.

Gamefly has been pretty accurate about things like this, so it's a pretty safe bet to expect this title in the slated date. Let's hope the sequel to last year's iteration improves dramatically to get more of us into the interactive history lesson thing.

BioShock's still hot and heavy as Gamefly's top requested game on Gamefly for the week ending on August 13. The past two weeks seems to be a period of great upheaval for the PlayStation 3. The Xbox 360 and the Wii, on the other hand, still has its top three intact.

What's new on the 360 though, is that Darkness has finally released its death grip on top five. Overlord also drops to make way for Stranglehold and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08. BioShock is on its second week at number one, its release impending with only a week to go.

Resident Evil has dropped out of the top five games for the Wii, while Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has jumped to first place in anticipation for its release next month. Boogie, which was released last week, didn't make the cut.

The PS3 experienced a heavy change this week as Lair drops from first place to last on the top 5. Ninja Gaiden Sigma drops one more place to take 4th while Madden NFL 08 takes first. Darkness also leaves the PS3 top 5, but Heavenly Sword has gone up to 2nd.

It's not even released yet and Bioshock's already the most requested game on GameFly for the week ending August 6. But then that's not very surprising even while its still about two weeks away from release, because it's recent scores from OXM and PC Gamer mark it even better than Halo 2.

The Darkness is finally losing its grip as heavyweight champion as it moves over to fifth place. It declines with a dignified air as it's the only survivor left on the chart from July 2.

The Wii's most wanted games are less erratic than the 360's. Predictably, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption took a prime spot in second place. Mario Strikers Charged rises to first place following its release while Resident Evil 4 drops to fourth place.

The PS3 seems to be experiencing an upheaval as well as Lair takes first place and Ninja Gaiden Sigma drops to third place. Heavenly Sword is getting some early attention in fourth place.

Xbox 360 titles top GameFly charts, Darkness takes first - Image 1

For the week ending June 25, GameFly reports that the numbers have been pulling strong in the Xbox 360 charts, pushing the top three titles to also corner the top three spots across all console platforms. Despite rental price increases, GameFly has seen Take-Two's Darkness become the most requested game in their weekly chart for the second time around.

Codemasters packed a good one-two this week, seeing both Overlord and DiRT take the second and third top spots (respectively) on the Xbox 360 request lineup and the all-platform lineup. Microsoft and FASA Studios' Shadowrun, a chart topper back in early June, now sits idly at number five of the Xbox 360 charts for the second week.

Capcom's Resident Evil 4 is hot on the Wii gamers' wishlists, while Ninja Gaiden Sigma from Tecmo sits on top of the PlayStation 3 charts. Nintendo DS players request SimCity DS from Electronic Arts the most, and Square Enix' Final Fantasy is the PSP gamer's favorite this week.

GameFly charts topped by Shadowrun as of June 1 - Image 1

Over at the U.S. side, the rental charts at GameFly eyes FASA Studios' Shadowrun for the Xbox 360 and the PC, which climbed a fair share of spots on either platform to become the most requested game on GameFly. Forza Motorsport 2, published by Microsoft, took the second top spot across the charts, with Codemaster's DiRT revving up Forza's tailpipe for a solid seat at third.

Nintendo's Mario Party 8, pegged by GameFly as last week's most request title, now slipped five spots down to number six in the overall charts. The top title at the Xbox 360 charts is Shadowrun, while Take Two's Darkness tops the PlayStation 3 wish-list. Mario Party 8 celebrates on top of the Wii charts, while Nintendo's Pokemon Diamond keeps its chances for the number one spot rock-hard. Apparently, size actually does matter for unlikely duo Ratchet and Clank as Sony's Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters get big on the PSP charts.

GameFly gets higher prices - Image 1

It looks like GameFly won't be so cheap anymore. According to some mail received by one of the members of vgoa.com, a price hike is incoming to the GameFly service, effective June 18.

Here's the pertinent information from the mail sent to Video Gamers of America:

At GameFly, we are committed to providing excellent service at prices that enable you to play all the games you want economically. However, the May 14th postal rate hike on "flat" mailers, as well as the higher cost of new console games, has significantly increased our cost of doing business.

In order to continue improving our service while facing higher external costs, we're raising the monthly fee on all membership plans by US$ 1. All accounts billed on or after June 18, 2007 will be charged at the new rate. Since we opened our doors nearly five years ago, this is the first time we've ever raised the price of our most popular two-game plan.

The change isn't about to break your wallet, but it's still good to know they're warning their customers in advance of the price hike.
