Activision, makers of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - Image 1

Fancy yourself a master of Guitar Hero? Well, if you're a video games journalist and pretty competent with a guitar controller, then why not stop over at the upcoming Games Media Awards in London and enter a special journalist-only Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock competition.

Activision has announced a free open invitation to all journalists across specialist and non-specialist media related to gaming. With over 150 press attendees expected to be at the event, competition will certainly be fierce in battling for the coveted title best journalist Guitar Hero player. There will be 16 still unrevealed categories involved in the contest, to be announced at a later date.

Gary Sims, Brand Manager of Activision, UK had this to say:

Guitar Hero III introduces competitive online play for the first time in the series, so the special journalist-only play off at the Games Media Awards are particularly relevant. And with the greatest selection of songs a music game has ever had, the performances will ensure the party concludes with a bang.

The Games Media Awards will take place this coming October 11, 2007 at the Soho Revue Bar in London and will be hosted by Intent Media.

I guess this would be the perfect place to release all those pent up frustrations game journalists from different gaming blogs and publications have against one another. Hey, you never know. Maybe you'll actually see me there jamming with some of the other writers and game journalists.

The team up doesn't seem too bad - Image 1The best games media groups are about to battle it out in Intent Media's Games Media Awards (GMA), and the big companies behind the gaming industry are going to back them up.

Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony, Electronic Arts, Take 2, and Vivendi will be dishing out some dough to support this major event. Their support is mostly in recognition of the media, both online and offline, for contributing to make game titles more well known through word of mouth. The PR heads represented their respective companies and gave in a few words.

David Wilson of Sony UK said "We are delighted to be a sponsor of the inaugural GMAs. Good journalism should be a source of industry pride and deserves recognition and reward."

From EA's Simon Smith-Wright, "It's going to be a great night. It's good to see the UK media being recognised."

"This event will show journalists that they are a valued and vital part of the industry," said Nintendo's Rob Saunders.

The event is expected to give media a boost, and inspire others to get in the industry. If you think QJ should get an award for quality gaming content, don't be shy to say so in the comments.

Intent Media's Games Media Awards to be held this October 11 - Image 1

The Games Media Awards 2007 will be on October 11 by Intent Media. This event's goal is to recognize the contribution that media has made to the gaming industry.

The awards ceremony will have all members of the media community (over 250 people will be in attendance) invited to the event as guests of a limited number of key sponsors. The categories in the event include specialist and non-specialist websites, print publications, online and broadcast TV shows, podcasts, national newspapers, consumer press, design, reviews, and promotions.

Stuart Dinsey, the boss of Intent Media, talked about what the true purpose of the Games Media Awards is.

Diversity of coverage is key to the games industry’s connection with consumers, but many within the wider media do not feel appreciated. Some have told us they don’t think they have a genuine enough relationship with the companies and products that they are writing about. The Games Media Awards will look to change that. They will build stronger ties between the games industry and media at all levels.

The Games Media Awards 2007 will be held at the Soho Revue Bar, Brewer Street, London. They have assured that further details regarding this major event will be released in the future, so this may be something to watch out for.
