Tumiki Fighters on the PC - Image 1Some of you might know of Kenta Cho - you might remember how his PC creations were later adapted and ported onto the PSP by homebrew developers. Mr. Cho's got bigger things to fry now, especially after Majesco Entertainment's E3 announcement of bringing one of his shoot-em-up creations, Tumiki Fighters, to the Wii (which is now called Blast Works: Build, Fuse & Destroy).

Siliconera was able to hook up with Kenta Cho, and in an interview about Blast Works, they also touched on other matters that concern game development as a whole - more specifically digital content up for download on WiiWare, PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade.

He does express interest in developing games for the consoles, and right now, he's working on some XNA projects. They're just prototypes for now, but only time will tell... Here's an excerpt from the interview:

Siliconera: Which digital platform is the most appealing to you?

Kenta Cho: I like Xbox Live Arcade because it has many small good action games such as Geometry Wars and PAC-MAN CE. I haven't owned Playstation 3 yet but recently one PS3 E-Distribution game, Star Strike HD (Super Stardust HD), is on my mind.

Yeah Super Stardust HD is, indeed, on quite a lot of people's minds. And you can't count out Geometry Wars either, as one of the games which further pushed the shmup genre (in a sense) to a different direction. Lots of casual games are available online. But how does Kenta Cho stack up to the big stackers?

Majesco logo - Image 1Last February, independent auditing firm Goldstein Goulb Kressler expressed their concern about Majesco Entertainment's financial health. Now, it seems that Majesco in a not-so-pleasant situation.

Majesco, known as the publisher of games like Cooking Mama and Psychonauts among many others, revealed that they received a second notification from Nasdaq stating the company has not met the US$ 35 million market value of listed securities requirement for continued listing.

Gibberish as this sounds, what this means is that Majesco's common stock is subject to delisting from the Nasdaq Capital Market unless the company requests a hearing before a Nasdaq Listing Qualifications Panel. In other words, this spells trouble as the fate of the company is in the hands of the Nasdaq panel. It's a sad thing when you're not in control of the situation, is it not?

The company is dead set on requesting a hearing, but of course there are no guarantees that the Panel will give in to their request for continued listing.

Fun with Food!

Those folks at the Something Awful forums are geniuses when it comes to the funny. This week for Photoshop Phriday, they've decided to focus on two things that taste great and go well together: video games and food. Nope, they weren't supposed to cook any, or play a cooking game like Majesco's Cooking Mama. It was something different altogether.

The task was to turn your average video game into a food-based parody of itself. Eat, play, and poke fun at games that do sound like they were meant for the frying pan. For instance, turn Dead Rising into Bread Rising, and Starcraft into... StarKraft. Now, imagine what you could do to with Ecco the Dolphin...

Enjoy some of these pics, and you can find more at the source link. Now if you don't mind... eating seems like a good idea right now!

CEA to the rescue?

Yeah, we here at QJ are still pretty bummed with the news about the changes in E3, but it looks like the Consumer Electronics Association is planning to be our shoulder to cry on as they are seriously considering the viability of a new consumer and trade event for the games industry.

After that ESA decision to morph E3 to into the E3 Media Festival, CEA believes there's a gap in the industry calendar which they are planning to fill with a freshly designed event based on feedback from the electronic entertainment industry.

CEA president and CEO, Gary Shapiro said that "since ESA decided to eliminate the E3 event in its known format, we have been deluged with inquiries on whether we could fill the tradeshow needs of smaller video entertainment companies. Our executive board met yesterday and unanimously asked staff to explore ways that we can help the gaming community."

The possibility of an E3-like extravaganza from CEA will be decided by the advisory committee led by CEA executives Karen Chupka and Dan Cole with support from companies including Auravision, Majesco Entertainment and NCsoft. For now, things are looking optimistic, according to Ms. Chupka, "a major goal of this advisory committee is to generate gaming community feedback on how best to meet the needs of the industry...As long as there is desire and commitment, we are ready to service this community and will begin looking at venues in Las Vegas and Los Angeles and for appropriate partners."

So what's your take in all these? Do you think the planned CEA event could fill the large gap left behind by E3? What do you want to see in the CEA event? Tell it to us through your comments.
