David Amor, co-founder of Relentless Software, recently spoke with Develop Online for his take on the current issues that gaming is facing today. One of them is the PS3-Xbox 360 duel, which he believes to be a challenging ordeal for Microsoft. The Xbox creators may be up in sales right now, but the PS3 still has one huge ace up its sleeve - the fact that it's PlayStation. |

Sony is under fire on the legal front once again, and this time the target is the company's usage of the trademark "Buzz", which it uses for Relentless Software's Buzz! quiz game series. The complainant? A U.S-based electronic trivia games company called Buzztime Entertainment. More in the full article. |

One of the many titles announced by Microsoft to be showcased during this year's E3 is Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action. This is a quiz-like video game and is an adaptation of the DVD TV board game of the same title where players answer questions related to pop culture. Quite interestingly, award-winning development studio Relentless Software has something to say about this.
You see, Lights, Camera, Action will come bundled with four wireless controllers known as "Big Button Controllers" that will serve as buzzers. However, those who own a PlayStation 2 and are familiar with Relentless' Buzz! franchise might recognize this so-called big button controllers so well: The one on the left are the controllers for Scene It! while the one on the right the ones for Buzz It!. Relentless Software Creative Director David Amor said that while they are flattered by this "imitation", this will not ensure success for Microsoft. Amor added, They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so right now we're basking in adulation. We knew it would be coming but we were a little surprised at the extent that the design had been inspired by Sony's. I think the test for Microsoft will now be on the software. The creative director mentioned that he is not at all familiar with Scene It! but if it will prove to be a competition for their Buzz! games, they are ready. "I know we have some aces up our sleeve with our forthcoming Buzz! titles," said Amor. It was mentioned before that Relentless is developing a new game for the PlayStation 3. |

Relentless Software, responsible for the Buzz! series, the Eyetoy, and DJ: Decks & FX, has moved offices in preparation of bigger and better things to come. The award winning video game developer (Develop and BAFTA) has moved into new offices in Brighton. The move was explained by the company's expansion since work on an unnamed PS3 title is underway. Also, more Buzz! titles for the PlayStation 2 are planned, which include Buzz for Schools. Relentless Software's creative director, David Amor had this to say: "We intend to be in the new offices for some time to come – we're looking to expand gradually and build on the reputation we've gained for producing innovative and social games." Let's hope the new office environment inspires the people at Relentless to produce more games. |
