Motorstorm - Image 1Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCE Studios Japan) has finally decided to take heart on the Japanese gamers who want to get a hold of the online expansion pack for MotorStorm.

It has announced that it will, indeed, be bringing the online pack to the land of the rising sun on June 20, and the free update will be bringing a 12-player online play dose of fun for our Asian counterparts. Oh, not to mention the attack mode that will be there as well. Anyhow, the download would need about 542 MB of hard disk space, so you Japanese gamers better stock up on space.

Apart from that, Sony will also be bringing in a demo along with the expansion pack, which will have in it a single course and two course. Again, though, no form of multiplayer play.

In case you're clueless as to why this is such great news, that's because Japan got MotorStorm first, but not without a catch: they didn't have any kind of multiplayer action. Now that's really something to be bummed about, eh? But with this good news, it's time to celebrate! Time for everybody to get a round of sake (no minors allowed, though. LOL!)

Folklore for the PlayStation 3 - Image 1

What if there are other worlds other than ours? The possibilities for dreamers are endless and these are explored in a new video game title from SCE Studios Japan and Game Republic called Folklore for the PlayStation 3.

Folklore is an adventure title set in fantasy worlds filled with fairies and creatures of dreams. The dark fantasy (inspired by western fairy tales) starts in a town called Doolin where the two protagonists meet: Keats and Ellen. Keats is a realist but he works as a journalist for an occult magazine (remember the TV series "The Chronicle"?). He gets a mysterious phone call from a woman asking for help. He rushes to the town of Doolin as the woman on the phone managed to say it over the static. Unfortunately when he gets there, he finds that the woman has been murdered.

Ellen on the other hand is dreamer who has an interest in folk stories. One day, she receives a letter from her mother stating that they meet at Doolin. The problem is, Ellen's mother had died when she was a child. The two meet at Doolin and discover that the town is the border between reality and dreams. They have to travel through seven "Netherworlds" to find the answer to the mysteries of their lives.

If the premise of the game's still not enough to interest you, here are the other features included in the game:
  • There are seven unique realms, players will travel from the ruins of the Undersea City to the never-ending maze of the Endless Corridor.
  • There are over a hundred creatures, characters, and monsters to interact or battle with.
  • Using the SIXAXIS wireless controller, the player must battle monsters and literally "shake" them into submission and "yank" their powers from them. The absorbed powers will be used to capture or defeat the monsters that lie ahead.
  • Players can choose between playing as Keats or as Ellen. They have different play styles as Keats uses traditional direct attacks while Ellen uses strategic methods to trap her enemies. Decisions made in one story line will directly impact the story path of the other.
With Yoshiki Okamoto (executive producer for Onimusha, Devil May Cry, and Resident Evil) on the helm, this title is set to turn heads. Folklore for the PlayStation 3 looks pretty good though there isn't any information yet with regard to the release of the video game. In the meantime, you can check out the screens and trailer while we check for more details about this one. Enjoy!

Check out the trailer and the rest of the screenshots after the jump!

More details abound the highly-anticipated card game that lets you see your own monsters duke it out in sweet, sweet next-gen graphics, SCE Studios Japan's Eye of Judgment for the PS3. In Part 2 of the Developer Walkthrough, we learn more about how an actual match plays like.

Watching the video, we learn that the direction your summoned monsters are facing figures quite a bit during the attack and defend phases - namely, that if the monster you're attacking is facing away from your monsters, they may or may not be able to counterattack depending on their attributes.

Another important aspect in the match is the Check phase, where one player is dangerously close to losing, with the other player having captured four of the tiles (remember that a player needs to capture only five of the nine-tile mat to win). The 'checked' opponent then has to destroy one of the other player's monsters in one turn for the game to continue, otherwise the fifth title would be captured and the game would end.

Eye of Judgment's really shaping up to be a very attractive title indeed, with slick graphics and online playability. This might just be the card game genre's ticket to the next-gen gaming market, but it's a bit soon to tell. In any case, enjoy the video!

Heads up - moving eye candy coming your way with the latest video of the highly-anticipated Eye of Judgment from SCE Studios Japan. We've been teased and we've been left craving for more, but now here's some gameplay along with a developer to walk us through the battle mechanics.

In the video, we get to see the start of a match. Like any card game, you have the elements to contend with, represented by the tiles. These tiles yield bonuses or penalties depending on the monster's type that you summon on them. There's also the mana factor, or the 'money' you spend in order to summon the creatures. And to win the match, you have to occupy at least five or more tiles on the board. Typical card-game fare, really - but instead of letting your imagination do the work, the PlayStation 3 does it for you, letting you see your own creatures duke it out.

Great presentation, decent voice acting, and an interesting, albeit simplified game mechanic. Here's hoping the other major card game franchises pick up on what Eye of Judgment's currently doing (Pokemon, Magic of the Gathering, hint hint). In any case, enjoy the video!
