Here's an update on the decrypted-but-not retail PlayStation 3 HDD. While the hack was decried as fake, it seems there's a matter of technicality that needs to be clarified. The HDD was indeed a retail PS3, and though it wasn't decrypted, it did remove the HDD layer encryption. It's a technicality thing.

More promising news in the land of PS3 homebrew. A hacker known as StreetSkaterFU has managed to partially dump the RAM on a retail PS3 machine, something that could eventually lead to encryption key breaking and the like.
