A part of me struggles against the idea of pitching Superman against, well, anybody, but getting him to kick the lights out of Shang Tsung and the rest of the Mortal Kombat roster makes me... scratch my head. Still, if the devs make it work, then why not? The vid in the full article sheds some light on some of the details of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, including some hints on the story, characters, fatalities, and how you take down Superman without kryptonite. |

We have to say, this week's Blu-ray barrage is impressive quality and quantity-wise. So what's up for release this week? In a nutshell, we have action flicks, Superman, the greats, "The Best", and The King. Two epic movies in the form of Troy: Director's Cut and Alexander Revisited: The Final Cut will be conquering Blu-ray entertainment systems everywhere. One is a retelling of the Trojan War and the story of its heroes while the other lets us see the man who almost conquered the entire known world. Two Superman incarnations also grace this week's Blu-ray release with Smallville: The Complete Sixth Season and Superman: The Movie (included in The Best of Blu-ray, Vol. 3), plus two classics from The King himself, Elvis. Fans will probably swoon over Viva Las Vegas and Jailhouse Rock, two of Elvis' most successful movies. Now, this week's releases are not limited to twos, as The Best of Blu-ray, a four-disc set hits the shelves as well. The Best of Blu-ray Vol. 1 features action flicks Lethal Weapon, The Road Warrior, Swordfish and Training Day. Vol. 2 features The Last Samurai, The Phantom of the Opera, Unforgiven and The Fugitive, while Vol. 3 showcases Blazing Saddles, The Departed, GoodFellas and Superman: The Movie. Remember the line, "You can't handle the truth!"? You guessed it, A Few Good Men is also sailing onto stores shelves. Also getting ready to rumble are The Condemned (with Steve Austin), We Are Marshall, the classic Deliverance (Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty and Ronny Cox), and the gore-slash-horror flick House of 1000 Corpses. Got all that? Stay tuned, we're sure there are lots more where those came from. |

So far, Star Wars: Force Unleashed (PS3, Xbox 360, with PSP and NDS development outsourced) is looking good, based on reader reactions here and elsewhere. For Star Wars fans who've been looking for good licensed games, thank goodness. In their official website, LucasArts devs have been maintaining a devblog that gives us a peek into the mind of one who Is Connected With The Force (a.k.a. George Lucas), who influences the direction of anything with Star Wars as its title. Lately the dev team has been either pushing for the inter-trilogy storyline thing - the entire Episode III-Episode IV arc, and George couldn't be any happier. Nowhere is this more true than when LucasArts sat down with Lucas to talk about Force Unleashed, wrote Assistant Producer Brett Rector. It was George, he said, who pushed for "a brand new protagonist", who would eventually become Darth Vader's bada** secret apprentice. Yes, the Force is perhaps strong in Lucas and his apprentices, because among other protagonist ideas that didn't make the cut were a gadget-wielding mercenary (would've smacked of Star Wars: Lethal Alliance, in our opinion), and, we quote, "a superheroic Wookie." Now, don't get us wrong: Chewbacca is bada** and all (and can rip our arms off, so have mercy, Chewie), but imagining him in Superman underwear really caused a funny disturbance in the Force here. |

People cheat because they can. People cheat, because cheating is an option that can possibly make ones life, in this case, one's gaming experience, a lot easier. The amusing part is that marketing - the folks who try to catch the attention of people who've stopped watching TV - knows that we gamers love cheats and now they are trying to creep in-game advertising into bonus/secret content.Perhaps their logic is probably something like this: "Game environment advertising is so yesterday! Let's sneak in an ad that players will have to figure out to see, and then they'll keep looking. People love Easter Eggs." Rachel Konrad reports that this is evidenced by a certain video that pops up after you shoot a jar of body wash in a certain video game about saving Vegas from terrorists. Beyond just masking/camouflaging advertising as additional content in Video Games, Konrad reports that the act of distributing and advertising the cheats and the easter eggs have become a marketing tool for games and game publishers/developers. Konrad cites the Superman Returns DVD that had a cheat code in it to unlock additional content in EA's Superman Returns game. It seems that lines are starting to blur if the games are advertising the products, or the product/franchise is advertising the game. |

Sonic the Hedgehog for next-gen consoles, Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3, will mark the 15th anniversary of our speedy blue friend, just as Sonic Adventure 2 marked the 10th anniversary. And as such, consider the massive amount of screenshots we have given you on Sonic the Hedgehog a preparation for these equally massive gameplay videos that are to follow. The following videos gives us a more detailed look on what the characters Sonic and Silver can do. Tall buildings in a single bound? Superman? More like Silver the Hedgehog. Running circles around three humongous robots before cloud surfing into safety? Only Sonic can. The gameplay videos aren't short videos. They just went by really, really fast.
