We spotted a few more details regarding the new firmware for Sony's next gen PS3 console. If you're running Windows Vista on your PC, then this will be good news for you. According to Carl Nelson of the HCW Tech Blog, firmware 1.80 will let you share media on your Vista-running PC with the PS3. Well, Vista does support DLNA after all.

If you're still running on Windows XP, it seems that upgrading to Windows Media Player 11 and fiddling with the settings a bit will still let you share your media. Some formats are still not supported though, such as native .ts files and lossless WMA files as well as DivX/XviD files. Anyway, here's a look at the PS3's XMB streaming media interface.

Nelson also notes that video streaming seems a bit stifled at the moment, and recommends that you "need to demux, convert the audio to stereo, then remux again". Mac users, on the other hand, are advised to try installing either TwonkyMedia (if you have money) or the VideoLAN VLC media player (if you don't).

PSP/PS3 HD drive - Image 1Dvineo presented an intriguing accessory for the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Sony PlayStation Portable: An HD movie player! The drive has a wide range of compatible formats whether they be video, audio, images and game saves. You can get digital media from non-write protected discs, convert them to desired formats and store them to the PS3 hard drive or the PSP SD stick.

In terms of videos it can read MKV, Xvid, DivX, MPEG 1, M1P, MPEG 2, TS, M2P, WMV, ASF, MP4 and AVI. The interface lets you manage and back up files when you attach the drive to a PC. If you're into music, it can read CDs, iTunes and other popular formats. You can convert WAV files to MP3 with automatic completion of track details via the online server's help. What's more, management is as easy as dragging and dropping the data.

With the Xploder software, images can be viewed in a gallery as thumbnails on your PSP and PS3. Again, dragging and dropping is the operative term. The same is true about managing game saves that you saved for games.

The HD drive has a lot more to offer than just this. The tech savvy among you will find pleasure in the details entailed in the Dvineo fact sheet. If you want to learn more about it, follow the read URL and tell us what you think.

Devil May Cry.

He's a smash hit, that Dante fellow. Making mincemeat out of demons is quite tiring, so Capcom let Nero play the main character for Devil May Cry 4. While he doesn't seem as cool as Dante, you have to give him props for having some demon-smashing devices that really do make the devils cry.

In this gameplay video from the demo, we see that Nero's basic combat style is a mix of some of the different things we've come to expect from Dante, except that Nero has three different weapons at his disposal at any given time. He uses the Red Queen and Blue Rose effectively as a sword-and-gun combination, with the Blue Rose having a slower firing rate (but definitely more power) than Dante's Ebony and Ivory guns as far as we can compare. The one thing brawlers will definitely like about Nero, however, is that if you don't like using swords, you can mix it up with aerial attacks from his demon arm.

The demon arm shows its useful functions in this video as well. While it's a handy way to perform aerial combos, you can also use it in mid-air to snatch an opponent from the ground with the uppercut and then repeat the aerial combo, ending it by smashing the enemy into the ground. It's a little cheap, but effective nevertheless.

Our only complaint based on this video? Nero speaks a little too often, and "Slam Dunk!" as a battle phrase does NOT sound cool. Enjoy the video, and make sure you have an XVid codec or an alternative media player to view it. Check the source for more details if you can't play the vid.
