Blu-ray's getting some diversity this week with an action movie, an anime film, and a documentary-type "sensory" video. This week's offerings will have you on your toes with an action flick complete with girls and guns, exploring philosophy with Japanese style animation, or just sitting back to lose yourself in sights and sounds.

Stranglehold star Chow Yun-Fat gets is the star of this week's Blu-ray movie, The Replacement Killers: Extended Cut. Alongside Mira Sorvino, Yun-Fat is the target of a ruthless crime boss who won't stop until both of them are dead. It ends with... well, you have to buy the movie don't you?

Also featured this week is the anime film Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise. Set in a world not unlike Earth, it is a coming of age story about a young man who overcomes the trials and tribulations of a political world war to pursue his dream of being an astronaut.

Nature's Journey is the third feature this week, offering up the styling sounds of Michael Stearns and the visual art of John Banks. The movie delves into the heart of the Earth featuring a montage of location filming, subtle computer-generated imagery, exotic musical soundscapes, and artistic graphic enhancements.

Stranglehold for PS3 - Image 1

I consider myself a die-hard fanboy of John Woo and his trademark gun-toting "ballet of death" movies. There's a kind of poetry in his films that even the most peace-loving pacifist cannot deny. So imagine my excitement when I found out that I would be the one giving out QJ.NET's first impressions on the new video game lovingly directed by John Woo. Throw in Chow Yun-Fat as the main protagonist and you've just got yourself one happy little fanboy jumping up and down while he mows down hordes of gangsters in Midway Game's John Woo Presents Stranglehold.

Right off the bat, after the initial loading screen, you instantly feel like you've just been pulled into a John Woo film as the opening cinematics roll. All the basic elements of his films are there: gangsters, enough blood to fill a small lake, and an excessive amount of dynamic camera angles enough to make anyone's head spin. The character design for Chow Yun-Fat himself makes him instantly recognizable as he reprises his role as the hard-boiled (pun intended) Inspector "Tequila" Yuen.

In the opening scene, one of his fellow police officers in the Hong Kong police force is summarily dispatched by a local Triad gang. Tequila then steps up to the group's challenge to send a lone cop to meet with the gangsters in the Kowloon market area. Of course, what follows is a series of gunfights, excessive fatalities and stand-offs that's enough to fill any action movie buff's testosterone-powered needs. Little does Tequila know however that the Triad already has a little insurance in their pockets against the gung-ho cop...

Check out more impressions on Inspector Tequila's mad gun skills and John Woo's greatness right after the jump!

One can't help but ask why are there doves in just about every John Woo film ever made. There may never be an answer to that question, but you'll definitely see that and much more in this four-part Stranglehold video exclusive by Game Head.

Seeing one of the biggest action stars in Hong Kong cinema, as well as the action director-god of film working together again after 10 years just sends chills down any action movie buff's spine. The video gets into the nitty gritty details of the game and how it stands out compared to other modern shooters today. It even has an interview with Inspector Tequila (Chow Yun-Fat) himself, who seems to have enjoyed his experience in helping bring life into the game.

We don't want to give too much away, but anyone who's into John Woo or Chow Yun-Fat will definitely enjoy these videos. Tiger Hill Entertainment and Midway Games' Stranglehold is definitely on any Woo fan's shopping list when it comes out this September for the Xbox 360, PS3 and the PC. Our only other wish for this bloodfest of a game is that it'll someday come out in the big screen as well - definitely a dream come true.

We know you haven't had enough Tequila - maybe you can never get enough from videos - but here's yet another crazy gameplay montage from John Woo's Stranglehold (Xbox 360, PS3, PC). By crazy, we mean gunfire every single second.

This isn't like other videos we've seen, mind you. Of course, it's almost criminal not seeing Chow Yun-Fat shooting something, but now he's bathing in blood while going gun crazy. Massive explosions are always present, thanks to the magnificent Massive D engine that makes everything your playground of destruction.

There's also a good chunk of multiplayer goodness late in the video, so you don't want to miss this. Check it out below:

The demo is out, and there's no excuse for fans of John Woo films and Chow Yun-Fat not to try out Midway's latest offering, Stranglehold (Xbox 360, PS3, PC). For those still trying to decide if it's worth the time and space, some gameplay videos on Game Videos may help.

First up, Inspector Tequila enters a restaurant to plant a couple of guitars (yep, guitars) before wreaking some havoc. As promised, Stranglehold follows John Woo's movies - they're action packed, but that doesn't mean there'll be shooting all the time. Tequila sometimes takes a tame approach before going guns ablazing. Sometimes.

The new videos showcase everything Stranglehold has to offer. From overwhelming numbers of enemies coming at you, awesome moves straight from Asian action movie flicks, to destructible environments thanks to Massive D. Going through a small garage lot one moment, pulling off some crazy stunts in a Chinese garden the other - those make up Tequila's daily routine.

Here's 'Garden' Gameplay video. Find more by clicking on the link below.

We were recently treated to the downloadable demo of John Woo's anticipated game Stranglehold starring actor Chow Yun-Fat. The tidbit of what's shaping up to be a bullet-riddled blast got mixed reactions. For those of you who weren't too happy with what you got your hands on, maybe these words from the developers can change your mind.

Aside from the wide array of cool moves you can pull of as Chow Yun-Fat in Stranglehold, emphasis was also placed on creating a vibrant world full of interactive objects and environments. Taking out the bad guys isn't limited to just pumping them full of lead, as you may guess. The game places premium on sending them to the afterlife with style. To reward you, you'll be given more stars for better-looking kills. It's like getting stars from a pre-school teacher if you're nice and smart. Kinda....

Stranglehold comes out later this year on the Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360. and the PC. PS3 owners in North America will get a free Blu-ray copy of Hard Boiled, an early 90's movie directed by Woo starring Chow Yun-Fat which is a direct inspiration for Stranglehold's content.
