Sony isn't the only one happy about the recent surge in PS3 sales. According to a report from GamesIndustry, retailers in the UK have also praised the console's new lower price point, calling it "excellent" and "especially effective."

The PS3 has outsold the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii by a ratio of three to one in the latest ChartTrack sales figures. The 999 percent sales increase follows the launch of the new slimmer PS3 SKU in the UK last tuesday.

Microsoft Europe's David Gosen has questioned the gaming industry's seasonal approach to game releases in a recent interview with MCV.
