Cheap Ass Gamer banner - Image 1

Probably upset over the fact that their ads are getting leaked weeks in advance, Circuit City has served Cheap Ass Gamer (CAG) with a subpoena to get CAG member Speedy1961's personal information. Speedy1961, the one responsible for the PlayStation 3 price drop Circuit City ad leakage, has also posted the same ads in another forum, DVDtalk.com - which is rumored to have received the same subpoena as well.

The particular Circuit City ad involves the PS3 price drop, which was posted in the Cheap Ass Gamer forums a few days before the planned official announcement from the Sony bigwigs themselves. The thread wherein the ad leakage was posted also featured discounted game prices at Circuit City, Target, and Best Buy.

In a recent podcast, CAG CEO David Abrams - known in CAG forums and podcast as "CheapyD", clarified that Circuit City is not in any way after CAG itself, but after Speedy1961 (who happens to post weekly Circuit City ads). The subpoena was served to CAG for them to turn over all personal information that they have on Speedy1961. Abrams pointed out that they really didn't have much, as the only information that they require from new members are email addresses and IP addresses.

Abrams also said in the podcast that Circuit City sent him US$ 5 along with the subpoena to reimburse the possible expenses in sending Speedy1961's personal information back to Circuit City. In response to this, Abrams consulted and hired a lawyer, and is working on a way to not submit or turn over anything to Circuit City as legally as possible. "The CAG community's trust and respect is very important to me, so I've hired legal representation to deal with the situation," Abrams said in an interview with Kotaku.

Abrams also ventured to say that one of the reasons why Circuit City is upset about the ad leakage is that they're being pressured by Sony, since the cover page of the subpoena mentioned the PS3 price drop thread in the CAG forums.

PlayStation 3 - Image 1It's official: PS3 units are going to sell at US$ 499 in North America. After countless of rumors all over the net, mysterious ads sent in advanced, and claims that cheaper units went off the shelves, Sony finally gave word that they'll be cutting a hundred bucks off the 60GB model. "This news does not affect any other PS3 territory," said Dave Karakker, Sony Computer Entertainment America.

In addition, the 80GB PS3 models previously released in Korea are now flying over to the US. At US$ 599, the package will come with a copy of MotorStorm.

Price cut on the 60GB version will be effective come July 10, while the units with bigger hard drives will be shipping in August. An anonymous Circuit City manager claims that the price cut will take place on July 12, so some retail outlets might be a few days behind.

PS3 - Image 1Following rumors of Circuit City offering Sony PlayStation 3 game consoles with US$100 slashed off their tags, Target and Best Buy moles are chiming in with word that the buzz is true.

Kotaku reports that a Target mole has had a look at the store's inventory program where the machines are listed in at US$499.99. The Best Buy source, on the other hand, claims to have seen upcoming ads where PS3s are priced in the exact same way.

This comes amidst Sony President Ryoji Chubachi's efforts to pour water into the blaze as he reveals that there are no such plans in the company's forefront, at least for now.

"At present we have no plans [to cut the PS3 price]," said the Japanese electronics giant head. He also said that the company intends to achieve a 5 percent operating margin during this fiscal cycle.

The PS3's price point is perceived by many analysts and consumers as the stumbling point of the console. A move downward for the costs is seen as a key factor in curbing the surging sales of Nintendo's innovative and low-priced Wii. We'll keep you posted as soon as news is at hand.

Finally, price cut! - Image 1While lurking around Cheap Ass Gamer's forums, we've found a very interesting thread and contained in it was an ad supposedly from Circuit City that has yet to be released.

Reading through the content, one little snippet snagged our attention: "GAMERS / MOVIE AFFICIANADOS: Please note $100 Price Break on Playstation 3 Game System which brings the price down to $499.99."

You read that right the first time. PlayStation 3s will be flying off the shelves US$ 100 less than the actual price. Along with it, you can get five free Blu-ray movies, once you make the purchase at the new price and head over to Blu-ray Savings to claim the freebies.

On a related note, various people from online forums claim that they received an e-mail from a supposed employee of Circuit City. One such example comes from Zeus:

We received an e-mail from a supposed employee of retail chain Circuit City who claims he wishes to remain anonymous. The employee claims that the store receives its ads 2 weeks in advance and he has seen the ad for July 15th to the 21st, which has the PS3 advertised for $100 less than normal at a retail price of $499.99. Sony will still allow for the five Blu-ray movies offer to be used in conjunction with the price cut, and the new price may be announced during E3.

Well, what do you think? Although it seems pretty logical and feasible that a price cut would be announced soon, Sony wasn't exactly happy about PS3 price slashes. But then again, it could also be just Circuit City's gig to take PS3 units off their stock. We'll watch out for any confirmation and inform you guys, so stay tuned.

Oblivion's pre-order price at Circuit City - Image 1

Price-conscious fans waiting for Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion RPG for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) may want to take heed of this possible bargain alert we picked up by way of Circuit City. The online retail store has posted that instead of the expected US$ 59.99 being slapped on the game, they will be selling Oblivion for only US$ 49.99 - a full ten bucks lower. The only catch foreseen with the deal is a release delay of two days - Circuit City currently dates Oblivion for March 22.

Future owners of Oblivion for the PS3 can expect high-definition visuals to greet them come the game's March 20 launch, along with the Knights of the Nine content previously announced by Bethesda's VP of marketing Peter Hines. Downloadable content for Oblivion's PS3 version (along with The Shivering Isles) will also be available, although at a later date than its Xbox 360 and PC kin.
