Sega has just announced that it's currently working with Amaze Entertainment and Edge of Reality to produce the Incredible Hulk games which will tie in with next year's movie offering.Sega has revealed little details in the past, but has now confirmed that the Incredible Hulk will be developed by Edge of Reality for home gaming consoles. Amaze, on the other hand, will take care of the handheld iterations. Specific platforms and information about how the game will vary depending on the features of each are still yet to be disclosed, but Sega assures everyone that they'll come out in due time. The Incredible Hulk motion picture is set for release around June 13, 2008. Game tie-ins usually come out on the same week as their film counterparts, so we can safely expect this game to come out right around that time neighborhood. |

Edge of Reality has been flying under the radar recently regarding their Cipher Complex title, even as they provided occasional snippets of info just to keep us perked. Now, with 2007 just starting up, they're stoking our adrenaline meters again as creative director Thomas Coles steps into the light for more details regarding the game. In a word, expect the game to be gritty - with none of the stylized, clean-cut kills we've grown accustomed to in titles like MGS or Splinter Cell. Then there's the pacing. When we talk stealth, it's often implied that we simply wait it out in the shadows, just biding our time until we can strike. Given Cipher's use of the adrenaline meter, expect a far more aggressive take on stealth, with players actively hunting down their targets under the cover of shadow. Fair enough - we never did like the idea of out-waiting the other guy, and real-life Special Ops teams do utilize a high degree of brutality in quiet take-downs. Think of how predators hunt - aggressively stalking before the kill - which definitely beats waiting under a cardboard box. Up ahead is the full interview with Mr. Coles, which covers more info on James Sullivan, the "adrenaline meter," and a host of other topics we're sure most of you will be interested in. 1. Just how far back has Edge of Reality's dev team been working on this project? We’ve been working directly on the game for almost two years now, but really, the technology within the game we’ve been working with and molding over the last 9 years. 2. In relation to question 1, was there any particular event that sparked this title's conception? Everyone here enjoys military games, but for the most part we just weren’t getting everything we hoped for in the current games, which was what really got us started on Cipher. We’ve developed a lot of games from the ground up, but this is the first game where we were able to take an original idea of our own and flesh it out. Overall I think it was a combination of the fact thatwe’ve been looking to move towards working on our own IP and when we decided on this genre and the eventual storyline we knew it was a go. It was really a case of good timing for both the development team and Edge of Reality as a company, plus its something we all really believe in. The full Q&A awaits after this jump! |

This new game in development for Sony's new console is probably meant to be Metal Gear Solid with Max Payne bullet time and Shinobi-styled rapid executions. Cipher Complex is the first original outing of Edge of Reality Games, a company usually associated with licensed games from movies and spin-offs. It seems that after building up a nest egg of capital (and rage), the folks at the company have decided to make stealth combat focus more on killing everything quickly rather than sneaking around quietly. That doesn't sound very nice, but it's true. The Metal Gear Solidcomparison has to do with the sneaking aspect, while the Max Payne comparison deals with Cipher Complex's use of an adrenaline system to allow the character to speed up and kill multiple enemies before you can say "Shirley!" Obviously, rapid-fire killing with knives is a very ninja-esque thing to do. While not much about the game has been finalized yet, we might as well leave you with some interesting tidbits. Here's a video interview with some of the game's creators, talking about the mechanics of the game and some of the inspirations behind its creation. Also, feel free to enjoy the screenshots we've grabbed from IGN for you. Enjoy! Download: [Cipher Complex Video Interview] Bring out the knives and click on "Full Article" for more screenshots. UPDATE: It seems like Edge of Reality really wanted to make up for the long silence on this military stealth game. Just a day after releasing fresh screenshots (which, by the way, are not to be expected only on the PS3 version but on the Xbox 360's, as well), the company's unleashing the game's logo, three more screenshots, plus a batch of artworks. Hope you like 'em. Yep...more goodies - logos, concept art, plus three new screens - from this Edge of Reality title after the jump! |

Binu Philip, president of Edge of Reality said: "The evolution of action games has seemed to plateau, perhaps because of the emphasis on sequels. We are exploring and developing brand new styles of gameplay and methods of storytelling. The concept and mechanics of Cipher Complex have been incubating in our mind for years, and with power of the next-gen consoles, we can finally make our dream project a reality."
The game follows the story of government operative John Cipher as he infiltrates Siberia in search of a downed reconnaissance satellite. Other than that, nothing else is known about the main narrative. But based on the storyboard art, Cipher will be joined by three other characters - blonde Coldwell, mysterious Mishka, and an older gentleman named Anakov. Also check out the preview. |

Taking the plunge in the next-gen waters, the Austin-based development studio Edge of Reality hopes to make a big splash with "hide and seek actioner" Cipher Complex. The game, which has been in production for two years now, focuses on environments and AI. Environments will not just be background noise or eye-candies, they will be treated like characters in the game.Being gamers first, developers second, Edge of Reality gives more emphasis on game mechanics. They turn their attention to the presentation aspect of the game only after they've worked on the more important part of development. When asked about the gameplay, they explained how the AI would work in a typical situation. Edge of Reality President Binu Philip explains, Our AI is contextually tuned to their specific environments," Philip explained. If you're trying to sneak around an area and shoot out a light, the enemies aren't going to just stand around doing nothing. One of them might think something is up and become more cautious and start looking around more actively. Another guy might call for help from a cohort, while another may just signal for a repairman to along and fix the problem altogether. Without revealing too much, Edge of Reality hints on vehicle play, limited character growth, and destructible "stuff." But there's one feature that the team feels will be appreciated by gamers. Of course, they're not saying what it is. Not yet. Cipher Complex is scheduled for the Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2007. |
