Sony PlayStation 3 white - Image 1Did the news of an FCC filing for the white PS3 unit shed hope onto your fragile little hearts? Well, too bad: Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) said that the FCC submission doesn't mean squat when it comes to the possibility of North American gamers getting their hands on a white PS3 unit. Check out why in the full article.

Blu-ray offer - Image 1Despite Sony's statements otherwise, more and more evidence towards the creation of the new PlayStation 3 SKU have popped up recently, like the FCC documentation of a Sony product with the model number CECHG01.

There's another compelling evidence of a new Sony SKU, and this time it's just about as conclusive as the FCC documents: an online ad listing Blu-ray Player models, as well as PlayStation 3 models eligible for a Blu-ray movie promotion.

The online ad lists the model number CECHG01 as one of the qualifying PlayStation 3 models for the free five Blu-ray movie offer. If you can recall one of our earlier reports, there were also talks that the FCC documents referred to a new controller that Sony is currently testing - they referred to it as CECHG01. However, with the model number being listed as a PlayStation 3 model here in this ad, you could consider the controller rumor debunked.

Rumors and speculations just keep getting hotter and hotter. Do check this space often for more updates!

Sixaxis - Image 1In a recent request sent to the FCC, the American Telecommunications Certification Body (probably through Sony's initiative) was spotted asking the communications body to revise the titles of the test reports that it submitted for a product not yet released.

This is particularly true, for instance, with regard to the revision of WLAN and BT (Bluetooth) reports for the device under FCC ID: AK8CBEH1000 (of model number CECHG01), which was revealed previously.

Now many seem to believe that this "model number" actually represents a new controller and that it was changed to disguise the unit that was tested.

Unfortunately, the image of the model specifications sticker plainly points toward a new PlayStation 3 unit - probably a new SKU that analysts have been whispering about.

In contrast, the new Dual Shock 3 controller was revealed recently by SCE President Kazuo Hirai at the Tokyo Game show, but the one spotted in the FCC website did not seem to be the same thing showed in Japan. We'll keep you updated for more. For the meantime, you may read the letter in portable document format, provided through the Read link below.

PS3 label - Image 1

The 40GB PS3 as pure "rumor and speculation"? Hmm, indeed. It looks like there are more evidences to the contrary, however. This time around the latest evidence of the new PS3 SKU is a new PS3 model posted in the FCC exhibits list, added only recently. This particular PlayStation 3's model number is CECHG01, and is packed with the following specs: Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, and some other specs found in other PS3s.

Here's the thing: the 40GB PS3 rumor points to a stripped-down version of the console - without any USB ports - but this new PS3 in the FCC exhibits list includes ports for USB, HDMI, and Ethernet.

There's a small chance that the new model in the FCC is NOT the cheaper version of Sony's PlayStation 3, so we'll have to wait around a bit for a few more details just to be sure.

Check out the FCC entry in the Read link!
