Before anything else, let me remind you folks something. Fanboys suxorz, iz teh n00b. Now that that's over with, here's a brief sum up on how your preferred consoles are doing, to give you a peek on what we might expect from them in the future.

The Nielsen Company has published their annual report of consumer activity for 2008. While there are lots of Top 10 lists in their report, ranging from most watched shows to most downloaded songs, what concerns us, of course, are the video game lists!

Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai was recently interviewed and was asked what he thinks of the console war right now. Hirai admitted that the PlayStation 3 may still be behind its rivals, but after 10 years, he says they'll be the ones laughing. More details after the jump.

Kratos on SoulCalibur IV (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360)? Well isn't that a very pretty prospect! Unfortunately, the welcomed rumor has been shot down in 1Up's podcast. No Kratos, after all. To know more, head on at full article.

Ah, Kojima and his delightful sense of humor. It's a good thing that we're going to get more of it in Konami and Kojima Productions'  Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. In the video embedded in the full article you're going to see Otacon break the fourth wall and make a fun reference to the older MGS games; specifically, their need to swap discs.

How is a winner in the console race determined? By the number of consoles companies have sold? Or by how much the console company made? If money does the talking for you, then you're probably in for a shock. Sony may have led the console race last generation in terms of hardware install base, but guess who made the most money (and on the operating income level, we must add)? That's right: Nintendo - if the calculations of Justin of Gamerinvestments.com is accurate and factual.

The Media Create Japan hardware sales are in and it looks like another victory for Nintendo's dynamic duo: The Wii and DS. However, don't count out yet Sony's consoles and Microsoft's because they had a pretty solid showing for their platforms as well.

Quite a few members of the gaming industry have been waiting for either the Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, or the Nintendo Wii to pull away from the competition and be declared the dominant force for this generation. Game developer and publisher Konami has given word that this will not be happening.

GamePro grabbed NPD's records of hardware sales, and stumbled on something interesting along the way. When the Sony PlayStation 3's sales numbers during the first 10 months after release is compared to Nintendo's last generation console, the GameCube, Sony's home entertainment powerhouse is obviously lagging behind.

The GameCube, which most consider as a distant third-placer behind the PS2 and Microsoft's Xbox, sold 2,120,000 two months before it celebrated its first birthday. The PS3, on the other hand, sold only 1,742,000 during the same period. At this rate, if NPD's numbers are accurate, Sony's entry in this generation's console race might fare worse than the GameCube.

Kaz Hirai blamed production issues (not Sony PS3 pricing), which is apparently the reason why Sony took a step to cut DRAM chip development costs. Our two cents here is that gamers are waiting for premiere titles to hit the Sony PS3, and time will tell if we're right on the money.
