NPD Group has released the market performance results for May 2008, and already the PR armies at Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony have began to churn out their reformatted versions of the results. Of course, each one talks only about what they've achieved so far in the fifth month of the Year of the Rat, but what happens when we put them all together? Yes, we get the full NPD May story. |

If rumors and speculations hold true, Sony's monster PlayStation 3 is
getting a good chunk of exclusive titles. In fact, Stunt from PS3Forums
went through all the trouble of compiling what games are expected to
hit the PS3 along with some unconfirmed yet highly feasible entries.
All 87 of them.Plenty on the list are supposed to be in development, but info is either scarce or non-existent. Worth noting are David Jaffe's three exclusives in the works after branching out from Sony to make his own game company. He defined one of the mystery games as "medium to hardcore in terms of gameplay and will focus heavily on multiplayer." Three unnamed games are also posted under Namco Bandai's banner, spanning over different genres. Quantic Dream appears on the list with two upcoming video games, namely Heavy Rain and an unknown project that could very well be Omikron 2. Developer Reflections is also expected to deliver another installment in their driving game series in form of Driver 5. Timed exclusives were included, like MMORPG The Agency, Free Radical's nectar-inducing Haze, and Epic Games' much anticipated Unreal Tournament 3. Pretty much every confirmed or even dated games are present, not missing giants such as Final Fantasy XIII, FF Versus XIII, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid Online, among many others. Find the list after the jump! |

A collaboration between three giants in the hardware industry, IBM Corp., Sony (and Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.,) and Toshiba Corp., has given life to a new prototype computer board. The board, powered by the PS3's powerful graphics processor, will be presented at SIGGRAPH in the US next week. The "Cell Computing Board" can do up to 230G Flops and is small enough to be mounted into a 1U-size server for a 19-inch rack mount, combines the Cell Broadband Engine microprocessor and RSX graphics processor. This pairing results in a high-power computing platform that goes beyond the power of the Cell chip alone, said Sony. The company did not disclose precise performance data for the board. SIGGRAPH will be held from August 7 to 9 at the San Diego Convention Center. |

More info about the upcoming video game that's got everyone talking, Sony's The Agency for the PlayStation 3, in this developer interview video. We give you the skinny on what you should know about the PS3 exclusive, and no, this article isn't going to self-destruct after five seconds.
First off, The Agency is pretty much a first-person/third-person shooter MMO with heavy espionage overtones. Certainly not a genre we've heard before, what with espionage giants like Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid having already exposed the public to such gameplay. But instead on focusing on espionage, The Agency focuses on giving players the unique over-the-top experience agents like the legendary James Bond would consider a part of his everyday routine. They call this "Agency Moments", instances which trigger depending how you're doing in a mission or in the overall scheme of things. We also learn that there's two agencies you can choose to align yourself with in the beginning of the game, namely the Unite Agency and the Paragon Agency. The Unite Agency is where the spy business is at - the usual tuxedo-wearing, martini-sipping, Walther PP7-shooting agent types will be found here, and if you're into the Bond business, you'll feel well at home with Unite. If you'd rather be the sharp knife rather than the blunt instrument, however, Paragon would be the place for you - rough-and-tumble, hardened ex-military mercenaries only need apply to its ranks. Another thing we found out is the game's "You are what you wear" system - that being, your character's abilities relate directly to what sort of gear you're sporting. If you want to be someone who takes the enemy head-on, you'll be wearing something akin to modern-day battle armor. If you'd rather be the stealthy, unseen one in the bunch, you'll have to step into something less comfortable and more body-hugging (a sneaking suit, perhaps?). On paper, everything sounds really good, but we really can't tell if it'll look as sweet in execution (the video itself doesn't have any videogame footage to boast). Still, it's good to know what they're planning for this rather unique video game, and it sounds pretty interesting thus far. Keep it locked right here for any and all updates concerning The Agency! |

Everything makes sense now as to why HP was intent in acquiring Voodoo PCs in the last quarter of 2006. It's on its way to embarking on a big quest to eat a portion of the online gaming pie.Boldly, the company most recognized for its work with printers and laptops announced that its "Game On" project will go head to head with the console giants - Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo. Analysts are skeptical as to how HP will pull it off, pointing to the fact that the console market grew by a third last year as compared to only 1 percent in growth for PC gaming. HP's gameplan is to invest on Voodoo and use next-gen PC gaming software and hardware resources to gain a competitive edge. HP says that in the era of the broadband connections, people can easily jump online and enjoy the games there. That's not to say HP has no prior experience with game development. HP Labs has shown a bit of what it can do by bundling demos of small games with HP and Compaq laptops in the recent years. So, will the masters of printing ever dominate the PC gaming online community? That we don't know, but the more the merrier, right? |

It's a one-two hit combo for Western Australia as the Asia Pacific region celebrates gaming over at Perth. The GO3 Electronic Entertainment Expo, or GO3 Expo for short, was launched by the Minister for Industry and Enterprise Francis Logan at the Perth Convention Exhibition Center, as detailed from an official press release.
With the Asian, Europe, and Oceanic game industry's gaming icons to participate in the event as guest speakers, the three day affair will showcase the industry's games, game hobbyists' leisurely activities, network communication and computer technology. So from March 30 to April 1, expect attendees to be able to try out games from the promotional demonstrations sported by game developers. Not just focusing on computers, consoles will also be making a scheduled arrival at the event, with Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 demo booths to be available to excited Aussie gamers. So you could expect their little handheld cousins aren't far behind either. The region's industry celebrities, government officials, and high profile media, including but not limited to MTV and Famitsu, will be joining gaming giants in making this uniquely positioned event a great success. Guest speakers include:
The GO3 LAN Party will also take place at the event. For 30 hours, over 600 attendees can relive the glory LAN party days and boast their talent against their seatmates' hand-and-eye-coordination skills. This is probably one of the largest network gaming setups ever attempted in Australia. Also making a peep show is the GO3 Cos-Play Competition just to showcase the huge subculture phenomenon in the Asian region. The competition will allow the best game-character to win an all-expense paid trip to the 2007 Tokyo Game Show. Next up is the Nullarbor Game Development Competition, where budding game dev enthusiasts and serious students around Australia can present their work to a large crowd. Visitors interested will be able to demo the games and vote for their favorite ones, allowing the best ones to bring home cash and prizes. And last but not least is the Dance Dance Revolution Competition, where Australia's best footwork masters duel it out to win more cash and prizes, plus get immortalized as the GO3 "DDR Champion 2007." |
